Thanks Daniele, however that thread also asks if anyone's found SSM 34184. I can only assume that no-one has!
After three years without a single starting problem, my '07 Puma has started once again the intermittent failure to start routine, either with the starter jumoping in and out of mesh or with the start-and-immediately-stall symptom. Many people with these symptoms seem to have solved it by cleaning/tightening the battery and earth connections (and since I am on the original 2007 battery this is a possibile cause) but I have a feeling that it may be caused by a failing handset battery in one of my lock plips, despite the fact that I am getting none of the plip-battery-failure warnings from the car. I only normally ever use one set of keys and have changed to the other to see if the problem recurs, which logically it should with equal frequency if it is the vehicle rather than the handset at fault. I am however intrigued at the content of the the "secret" SSM 34184 since it is mentioned specifically in SSM 39893 but doesn't exist on GTR and I haven't found anyone who knows what it says! One thing I have notice with the starting issue is that if SWMBO is in the car with me it is far more likely to failt o start, thus causing extra stress and ear-ache! |
