Well, having not heard from the Dealer by 1200, I decided to call them, after being on hold long enough to make a cup of tea, eat some lunch and nearly empty the cup a human voice answered...... So as I start to speak a voice says, sorry you need Service....I rang service, well this isn't I'll put you through......finish my tea. Voice returns and says are you the same man? Yes, sorry Service must be busy, I'll take you details and someone will call you.
Me being the believing sort, or perhaps stupid happily waits. Once the clock strike 1400, I feel time has ticked by enough and perhaps I should drive to them, so I left London and drove straight to Reading, expecting a call on route, you never know. Met the service Advisor, not a great start from my point of view, seems I should wait for a call not quite in your face "why are you here" but definitely not happy with the face to face approach...... On a technical front they can't find any fuel fault, ran the engine at idle for 2 hours without any pressure issues. Explained the issues again, LRA didn't leave the blue copy of the fault report. I gave them my copy and they are going to pass it to the technician on a positive note they did fix the vacuum pump as they found the hose clamps loose. They also found another issue relating to a "pump" leaking oil and parts were on Order. So I'm still driving around in a RRS but no nearer any solution to the fuel problem! _______________________________ Puma Defender 90 |

Well I had the call this afternoon, "your land rover is ready for collection. We've cleaned and it's parked waiting for you". Unfortunately in a meeting so had no more to go on, was fixed what did they find.
So off down the road from London, arrived there it was all clean and ready to go. Spoke with the lady from Service and they found the following; Supplied and fitted new transfer shaft seal Supplied and fitted new front shoes and seal Cleaned vacuum pump No other codes present, they could not find a problem with the fuel system or replicate it. They found a couple of issues I was unaware of and all under warranty. So I'm none the wiser. _______________________________ Puma Defender 90 |

Vacum piping is something that can give aultitude of bizzare faults. I once chased a fault for 2 weeks on a 300tdi and it Was the diaphram in the crank case breather/cyclone breather
The repair they did on your vaccum pump could solve it . If it hasnt your fault could lie within the induction system. Have you had a chance to fully test your defender after its return? |

theorangebandit, I haven't really tested it, traffic was backed up through Reading and it's the first thing I'll do tomorrow.
diesel_jim, I don't know! as service just read the pro-forma invoice and I was more concerned over the "no fault found", on why it was there in the first place. Just posted it without thinking.......now I'll need to have a good look in daylight. _______________________________ Puma Defender 90 |

Well drove it over the weekend no problems, then again 10 miles at most. All okay.
So today off up the M4 and just as I hit the elevated section......yes it lost power when changing down, as before no hint of a problem, change down into gear and nothing Busy so didn't call the garage but not to worry they promised to call me..... so I'll deal with that tomorrow now. Only dropped out twice on the way back, perhaps I can be a glass half full man and take that as an improvement _______________________________ Puma Defender 90 |

Was the weather hot?
What does your temperature gauge show when this happens? Were you driving in 6th gear - I assume yes. I've seen a few reports where the puma goes into limp mode due to overheating, when the Cylinger Head Temp exceeds 110C and recovers in a second or two. Partial workaround is to use 5th gear instead of 6th as that increases engine rev's and therefore the amount of cooling air through the radiator. |

SGoggin, temperature gauge sat in the normal middle range, no change, weather was only about 14 and yes in 6th gear. _______________________________
