Standard rear springs are the same as heavy duty front springs. I fitted these on my previous 90 when i fitted a winch up front as it was sitting a bit low on the standard fronts. 2005 Td5 90 XS

Ahh - you have the new numbers for the rear springs - I'm not sure what they are.
The older td5 listing is: 90 (2400 Kg) Part No. Colour Code Front - Driver’s side NRC 9446 Blue/green Front - Passenger side NRC 9447 Blue/yellow Rear - Driver’s side NRC 9448 Blue/red Rear - Passenger side NRC 9449 Yellow/white 90 (2550 Kg) Front - Driver’s side NRC 9446 Blue/green Front - passenger side NRC 9447 Blue/yellow Rear - Driver’s side NRC 9462 Green/yellow/red Rear - Passenger side NRC 9463 Green/yellow/white The RKB's are new part numbers, yours are listed as HD ones, but unlike those listed above I can't find any rates or heights ? |

You could fit some spring spacers to the rear if you,re happy with the the spring rate that you have. 2005 Td5 90 XS

Found this ....
RKB101230 Spring - road - coil - rear - red - green - yellow -> driver 50 LE 210 -> 240 progressive lb/in 15.25" long 9.2 coils RKB 101240 Spring - road - coil - rear - yellow - green - white -> passenger 50 LE 210 -> 240 progressive lb/in 14.81" long 9.2 coils It's talking about the 50le model - but assuming the part number is consistent ..... NRC9448 D90 Rear 15.31" 225. blue/red NRC9449 D90 Rear 14.80" 225. yellow/white On those lengths - it seems odd you're higher at the front as the spring lengths are all but identical. Unless you have bought non genuine springs ? As aftermarket ones seem to end up being harder. I'd swap them over - progressive springs would be better at the front and it would address the nose up stance. |

Have been on www.red90.ca/rovers/springinfo.html
and came up with 3 possible setups RRC springs NRC4304 RRC HD NTC3285 DISCO NTC8572 swapping out the rears since its easier and making it a bit taller without rasing it an inch |

This is the setup I had on my TD590 with winch on front..
Click image to enlarge After looking through the LR range I found some springs of the right poundage and ones that I thought I could make level. NRC9448 Blue/Red 15.31" 225 lbs/inch on rear NRC9449 Yellow/White 14.80" 225 lbs/inch on front I fitted RR rubber isolators to top of rear springs. RH Rear 52.3cm now 53.7cm LH Rear 50.4cm now 53.7cm RH Front 52.3cm now 53.9cm LH Front 51cm now 53.9cm All level - ish . The pic above shows it slightly up in the rear by about 10mm. This was when I had the x-springs fitted and the spring cups turn round. I hope this helps Admin note: this post has had its images recovered from a money grabbing photo hosting site and reinstated |

Also meant to add that you have two sets of HD rears there. The NRC's are HD rears for truck cabs and hardtop TD5's the RKB progressive HD rears for station wagons. Yes fitting them this way round, even with the winch will make the front higher. You could use my setup above by buying one each 9448 & 9449 and a pair of RR rubber spring isolators or you could just buy two pairs of the rubber spring isolators and fit top and bottom to your rear springs. This will give you about 1" lift on the rear that you need. Cheers Steve |

how does this set up work keeping the front as it is, and fitting 2x NTC8572 (NTC8572 Disco JA015479 - KA038877, 16.34 inches tall, 200/330 Ib/inch)
to the rear with isolator rings ( cheers Steve G) on the top of springs. |

It depends on how many windings of the lower spring rate there are. You could find you immediately exhaust lower rate onto higher rate and so it's higher than you expect. I suspect it could work seeing as discos are heavier than 90's, but you'll have to try it and see.
You really need to weigh your Defender to work out your corner weights. Ideally when normal, and then weighed again when loaded up for a typical trip. You can the work out what height each spring you are considering will reduce in height by. Also you need to see what driving characteristics you like. HD springs provide a stiffer ride, good if you don't have an ARB fitted. If you like the lighter springs, but want less pitch, dive and roll you can overcome this to a degree with some uprated shocks like Old Man Emu etc. Cheers Steve |

This is a great thread, although the options are confusing..!
I am loading the rear of my TD5 hard top with around 200kg of kit and storage drawers. So what springs (from the OEM variants) would give me a similar or slightly higher ride height that the standard springs..? Cheers Simon |

I have a 300TDI 110 CSW built up as an overland vehicle. I try and run as light as possible but still carry a bit of weight with water tanks and a long range fuel tank, the following has worked very well for me for the last 4 years with about 15,000 miles off road in Pyrenees, Morocco and Western Sahara:
Shocks: Koni Heavy Track - Adjustable with setting one off softest Springs: Front - Standard Height Land Rover Springs - NRC8044/8045 Springs: Rear - Standard Height Progressive Springs - RKB101111 I don't have a winch fitted but have fitted Air Lift Helper springs on the rear when I am very loaded on trips with the family with all the toys!! Set up works really well and has performed faultlessly on and off road including long sections of desert and corrugations in harsh terrain. Oooops! Wrong thread!! |
