As Matt says sorry to hear about the scumbags striking at your vehicle.
A few months ago it seemed to be Essex which was having the bonnets stolen, however there has been a spate of doors and bonnets going in West Yorkshire recently. Have heard of one guy losing 3 bonnets in an 8 week period! He was down south admittedly. The scumbags know where your vehicle is now so consider some extra security such as bonnet security hinges and/or a short cable through reinforcing ribs and lifting eye. Brendan |

I've been hit three times in eighteen months, including one complete loss, and have got a fair bit of extra security already - not mentioning details here for obvious resons. I'll be talking to you later today about getting a bonnet lock - do you carry the Aerotech locking pins?

Get a hammer and put a big dent in the middle of it, then your bonnet should be safe  |

I'm having security hinges fitted to the new lid - bit of a painful job as the insurance is insisting the work is done by a Ford garage who are not too familiar with the Def2... I've had to explain that bonnets get stolen and why. Hinges from Brendan at 4x4 Overland. Pix in due course

I had the screw heads ground off and drilled out the hex heads on the doors. They can still get them out but it takes longer so will probably go else where. Hope this helps. C

Drilling the bolts out on the bonnet does NOT slow down the bonnet thieving scumbags one little bit!
Reason being they do not nick them by undoing the bolts. OK you might give them a slight problem after they have nicked the bonnet. Choices are keep Defender well out of sight in a secure compound/garage Bonnet security hinges, visible might deter, but will definitely slow them down. Cable/chain attaching bonnet to engine lifting eye. Not visible so no deterrent effect. OK will seriously hinder the theft, so will they then tend to damage out of spite? Also drivers window may well have been smashed by this stage! Brendan |
