Security Film
Have been told of bonnets being stolen by smashing drivers window and using bonnet release catch.

Not very high tech method of stealing causing more damage and mess then the more sophisticated method of stealing the bonnet.

This reminded me of the security film Llumars fitted by people like Audio Images in Bradford. Have a look at the video on this page

Have not used this film myself.

I'm thinking of getting smash guard fitted to the defender. Was quoted £300 all in, for all 4 front windows (not rear door, that has grill).

Might be worth it, just my pedal lock also covers bonnet release.

I tried to get security film fitted when I had my windows tinted, but the chap doing it said it would look peculiar at the edges of the glass - maybe it was too thick?
I didn't really understand his point, perhaps he didn't want to do it.

Good point, but the bonnet release and cable are hardly secure, won't this just move them onto accessing that directly when they find that the windows are harder to push in than they thought?

It doesn't if done properly.

There is also Pentagon Supaglass which can be done as clear or tinted.
