[Wanted] Genuine Wolf mirror arm
Does anyone happen to have either one or two genuine Wolf long mirror arms they'd be willing to sell for a more reasonable sum than the absurd new price?

Past experience means I really don't want cheaper aftermarket and definitely not Britpart.

Thanks.

I have a feeling that these are the same arms used on some of the (now defunct) Leyland DAF mid range vans, like the post office use.

I am told that they are and can be found on some LDV Sherpa-type vans. Trouble is I can't find any!

I am also not sure if the "value-engineered" aftermarket versions are designed the same as the genuine Britax(?) parts - the genuine ones allow the detent ring to be adjusted to alter the angle of the arm to an almost infinite degree. If I knew that the el-cheapo had the same feature I would be tempted to try one.

That idea had indeed crossed my mind...

Unfortunately it seems that this is no longer the case! The early Wolf ones had this useful feature, but the current genuine parts are no longer dismantlable and do not have the adjustable detent ring.

Furthermore after sauntering through the MT section and LAD at work studying mirror arms, it seems that the genuine ones have the same biodegradable powder coating that the cheapo pattern parts have. I was not impressed at all at the state of some of them!

It seems there are at least three distinctly different Genuine long mirror arms in existence:

1 - dismantlable with adjustable detent ring, removable pin/ball for mirror
2 - not dismantlable, no adjustable detent, arm and ball made in one piece, arm solid at pivot end (no plastic plug on top)
3 - as 2 above except with the same plastic plug as found on standard (short) Defender mirror arms in the top surface of the arm directly above the pivot.

The detent on types 2 and 3 above does not allow the arm to be positioned at 90 degrees to the vehicle side (the nearest is approx 20 degrees fore or aft from the perpendicular). I believe, but may be mistaken, that the cheapo aftermarket ones do have a detent position at 90 degrees and that this is one identifying feature.

I am still on the lookout for one early type dismantlable arm, if anyone knows of one.
