There's a nice little review on the Clean Your Car site linked by Les Brock which talks about not only the "brilliant CarPro Iron X" (or Trix as it now includes tar remover) but also Sonax, which they seem to rate as "the best wheel cleaner that we’ve tested" - Worth a look?

Dudes
Iron X is indeed great stuff but you don't want to use it too often (I clean mine once/twice a week) as it is a bit aggressive as it says on the tin it is for getting rid of any metallic contaminants that find their way onto the car,( you can use it on the body work as well but again not all the time ) to clean your wheels Meguiars is a good everyday cleaner, but the trick is to A : seal the wheels once clean and B : wash them regularly. I would only resort to TFR / Truckwash type stuff if I needed to up my wheels. Wes |

Eh up Wes, how's the defender ?
I use iron x every other month for a deep clean and bilberry every fortnight. As Wes mentions I seal the alloys after cleaning - makes a massive difference. |

I'm using AD very cherry at the mo which is good but I know lots of people that love the Bilberry Wes Last edited by Mother superior on 24th Sep 2013 10:10pm. Edited 2 times in total |

Hi buddy, yeah all good here . How's the better half and the mutts ? All well I hope.
I think the bilberry is pretty much the same as what you're using from what research I've done. Foams really well, gets the weekly crud off but doesn't really tackle anything baked on. Totally harmless though which is the important bit. Yeah I've got to dig the clay out before winter and get some protection on the 90. Looking pretty filthy at the moment. For sealing the alloys there's all sorts of good products out there - get yourself onto detailing world and one of the suppliers (I use elite) and get some rim sealant. As it were so to speak vicar. |

Any wax is better than nothing,it's cleaning wheels with brushes that makes them harder to clean (scratches the paint allowing dirt to "key") a regularly cleaned and occasional wax of a wheel make future wheel cleaning a doddle.Or you can buy a dedicated high-temp wheel sealer (wax). |

I find a strange thing with my 110..... I don't get any brake dust on my Boosts. I've never needed to use alloy cleaner on them?
With the Evoque, I drive it 5 miles and it's got dust on the wheels. Anybody else have this with their Defender wheels? Craig Rogers 2007 Puma 110 XS 2011 Evoque Coupe Dynamic Lux www.craigrogers.photography |
