How was your LRE day?
It's quite a fun track down there (not as extreme as some of them but can get quite boggy). I was amazed when I did one of those in a Defender. I was feeling dead chuffed with myself having driven over their moguls only to turn round and watch a RRS do it at twice the speed on standard road tyres Great fun, though. Sorry to hear that. You've got to love the Brits some times
I need to book another of those sessions (I've got 2 vouchers). I actually fancy taking a Freelander round to see how capable they are (bought the wife one). But I'd like to get the Defender round again on a different track. Isn't there one at the Gaydon heritage center? One that started out as a 2.4 TDCi 110 XS + New Defender 110 First Edition |

Just thought I would let you know I took the 110 to Milton Keynes Stratstones last week. I had avoided them for a while since their predecesors (Venture Landrover) at the same site damaged my previous 110 while there for a service in the past and took 6 months to fix it.
Anyway, this visit was far more positive and within 1 minute the technician agreed the clutch was at fault and should be changed under warantee. Its now booked in for the work on 21st and 22nd. I will report back on results. I hope it gives the required transformation since this has realy taken the edge off owership of this 110 so far and I have found myself wishing I still had my old TD5. Lets keep fingers crossed. Malc |

i find it with my 57 90 that what ever you try a gear change when the engine is cold or warming up that the gear change IS more stiff and more clunk on it however when engine has warmed up shes smooth as anything. Also 1st is a VERY low gear i find and that you've go to be very slow to change down from 2nd (roughly 1000RPM)

Is about 10,000 miles about right for a clutch?
I had a new one fitted about 10,000 miles ago and now the replacement clutch (i think) is making a howling rattle after about 2500rpm under acceleration. Warranty out in Jun |

I would expect more than 60K from a clutch unless I was regularly doing heavy towing. There is no way your clutch should be playing up at 10K if you are using it normally and correctly. Get it back to the dealer now before the warantee runs out!

Well, got the 110 back today following its warranty clutch change and recall work for engine low power and parking brake oil contamination.
The 110 is transformed. The clutch now bites in the middle of the pedal travel rather than at the top. There is progressive engagement and its almost impossible to make a gearshift that causes transmission clunk. I looked at the clutch that came off. Although there was plenty of life in the friction surfaces, the springs where so loose they almost fell out. Not so delighted with the ECU remap for the 'low power' recall issue. There is no increase in power and it actually seems slower to pick up revs after you reapply throttle following a gear change (maybe this is by design to reduce shock on the transmission). It may take some getting used to, but I think I prefer the old mapping! A re-map for a modest power increase and more responsive throttle could be on the cards sometime this summer. I didn't have any oil leaks before, but now the transfer box output seal is changed, and the rear crank seal (apparently it was leaking slightly), thats two less seals to worry about for a while! I must say that Stratstones Milton Keynes where a pleasure to visit. The last dealer on that site, Venture Land Rover, was dreadful. Stratstones MK also beat Stratstones in Alylesbury by a huge margin, they sold me the 110 and swore blind the clutch was perfectly healthy when obviously it wasn't! So, now I can grow to love this 110 I hope. Malc |

Dropped mine off today for a new clutch (No2) and new gearbox selectors. Can I just say that, I had no massive issues with either apart from jumping out of gear and a clutch rattle.
Both issues were found on a routine service and the dealer showed me the recall (not recall but can't remember what they're called) paperwork. Anyway, got a Freelander 2 HSE Auto and WOW, well impressed. Definatley want a auto in the new generation Defender......and an armrest!!! Just a pitty the wife wants a new VW Scirrocco, I'm quite smitten with the F2 |

Yep, got a phone call today to say they have fixed it all.
I did complain about flaking paint on the bottom of the front grill, as I expected "we can not cover that on warrenty as they are believed to be stone chips"......oh really . Can't wait to see there faces when I take their Freelander back......its a little muddy and stinks of wet dog!!! |

I take it you mean the grille over the intercooler. It's a well known issue that the paint falls off. I took mine in for it a year or so ago. They started to suggest it might be down to me until I took them round their own car park and showed them the same issue on virtually every Puma. Needless to say they did it on warranty (although it took a week ). One that started out as a 2.4 TDCi 110 XS + New Defender 110 First Edition |

i think all the grills do it, mine certainly is at 18mth or so old.
Back to transmissions, mine is making a bit of a louder than normal noise under light load in low 1st and rev. ie slight gradient at tickover, i know its not the antistall so am thinking clutch plate may need changing. So if its a tech bulletin wrt to the clutch plate does anyone have the number for it or infact what it says? it may well be listed here somewhere i will check.
