Yes they are a little noisier than a car, but only very slightly. The nosiest thing on mine is the howl of the mud tyres. They really are much more civilised that some folks give them credit for.

Either you are already getting deaf or you haven't been driving a modern car lately. Mr. Green

Sorry, maybe I am being over critical or shouldn't point out a Defenders faults on a Defender forum. But as the end of my post says, despite all of its faults, the one car that brings a smile to my face is the Defender and that counts for far more than nearly anything else.

I've moved from an HSE Disco to a 110 XS SW as my only car, typically doing around 900 miles a week.

Plus points -

A much more engaging drive, fun to be in, and I'm more relaxed in my drive (not in a hurry to be somewhere else anymore).

Negatives -

Fuel, space (can't believe how much smaller it is internally than a Disco), worry about it being nicked. My Disco 'best bits'

200tdi 110 was the family car for 16 years. 2.4 Puma 110 has been the family car since 2008. Wife loves it.
No brainer - Puma 110 is THE family car par excellence.
P.S. Have two Pumas, that says it all Mr. Green 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

Used my heated front screen this morning for the first time, brilliant! I had one on an old XR4x4 years ago and i'd forgotten how good they are! A man with no boat is a prisoner

Wouldn't care a single bit what my kids (hmm, I only have one I think...) shout, only what I shout when a Defender drives by. Wink

I also think the security issue is a bit exaggerated. First of all, I can't imagine a car thief would follow every Defender driver into the woods, to be able to steal there car when they get out. Also, if they really want to make fast money, They'd be better off stealing the Range Rovers and Disco's. Lot's of profitable stuff like satnav, airbags, etc...
A big plus is they won't even have to leave the city centre to get those cars.
For every Defender they steal, probably 1.000 VW Transporters get stolen.
Just make sure you have it insured.

The Defender is the most stolen vehicle in the UK, for every 1 stolen sat nav you can sell 10 Puma bonnets/doors.People are forever rebuilding their Defenders,so there is always a very high demand for replacement parts, thats just in the uk, a hell of a lot of parts/vehicles end up overseas where part prices are 10x higher, doesn't help the fact that most Puma bodywork fits straight onto a 90/110 that was built 30+ years ago, can't do that with a VW Thumbs Up .

Wait a month or two when temperatures drop to freezing overnight and then have a defender for a few days. Either laugh or get angry when you can't open the door as the doors are locked frozen, screen is frozen on the inside and then think about pressing the park heat fob on the RR while you are getting ready and sitting in a nice warm car when you finally head out.

or where you sit for 60 mins awaiting LR Assitance as the air compressor isn't functioning properly and one of your air springs is sitting on the bump stop.

Jimbob, what was I thinking visiting Wales a couple of months ago. Glad I still have my Defender then... Mr. Green
Over here, VW is the most stolen car. Especially the Golf. Fortunately no Land Rover on fifteen most stolen cars in Holland.

Nothing would stop me owning a Defender though. Enjoy every minute looking at it and driving it. Cool

There are lots of different surveys regarding the most stolen vehicles in the UK and not all have the same top 10. Nearly all agree however that the Ford Transit is the most stolen vehicle in the UK followed by the Astra. BMW X5 also beats the Defender in the most stolen lists. Best I could find was the Defender coming in at number 10 on a list. Still not great but certainly better than being number 1! Very Happy

I bet if you actually did the survey with the number of each kind of vehicle on the road then defenders would come out on top as there are about 100 transits to every defender on the road.

Wales 2012 Defender 90 Other SW Keswick Green
I am driving my 90 TD4 as daily business car now for two years and eat 20.000 miles per year, so just turning about 40.000 miles now. Mileage is 35 mpg, but I am a Ms Daisy driver.

My move was from a BMW 5 series and the switch was on intention. I hated getting all these speed tickets and realized that speeding would have no longer a benefit anyways.

It's a great daily, if you love it - but only. Never forget: cars have owner, Landrover have field service personnel.

TDi & earlier are most nicked. TD5s & then Pumas less. But bits of Defenders, like doors, bonnets & alloy wheels are stolen regardless of model. Land Rover Defenders. 67 years heritage, minimal appearance changes, still going strong all over the world. Not a fashion vehicle, but fashionable to own. Made for the needy, not the greedy. Ta ta Defender
