And not a bulkhead in sight................
My Defender is just over 3 years old with added LR warranty cover. Went in for 60k service and spray job on front screen hinges as the paint was coming off. I was told that the bulkhead was also rotting and needed to be replaced. Almost 7 WEEKS LATER THE LR DEALER STILL CANNOT GET THE REPLACEMENT PARTS! If they were made in Mars it might be easier, but apparently a part that is manufactured in Solihull every single day cannot be got hold of for a mere customer! The LR dealer treated me very well giving me use of their Freelander for all this time and 4k miles, but this really is shoddy from LR factory. Perhaps I'm wrong afterall, and the parts are manufactured in Uranus!! Thoughts? Smile

It sounds like you need to be speaking directly to the Land Rover customer service people, to be honest. Darren

Rubbish they are talking poop. If your bulkhead is rotting, it would be all rusty below and around where the front air vents used to be. I know LR have used some bad steel before, but it takes longer than 3 years for a bulkhead to rot. 1998 110 300Tdi White Hard Top

Dealers have to do a rust inspection every year and put their stamp in the trucks maintenance booklet. How can the bulkhead be rotten/rotting at 3 years old and same time got a clean bill in the second year? Your dealer seems at fault here, unless between year two and three, you have given your truck a salt bath or so. I would not let them get away with this all too easily. You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation.

perhaps in these green re use and re cycle times, they've found a new source of steel - old Lancias perhaps or even disco 1 boot floors? Rolling with laughter

No way a bulkhead can be rotten after just three years, even with Land rover's modern weight-saving steel. Rusty, absolutely. But not rotten.

When they do change is I'll gladly take the "rotten" and unusable one off their hands, save them chucking it in the skip Laughing

I was also astounded when they said rot - even more so as it was them who brought it to my attention. Funny thing was that they rebuilt the car 2 weeks ago and tried to make me have it back, but when I went to collect I noticed they hadn't bothered fitting the rear view mirror so I refused Thumbs Up .

Have to say the front reception service staff are tops (that's you K & J) and one of them even quite hot (that's not you J - no offence if you read this post!).

Will miss them, (but not the body shop), as now I've decided to cross over to the dark side for a while.......... Embarassed

Not saying who the dealer is, but it's in Carlisle and rhymes with Lloids.

Not saying which dark side I'm going with, but it rhymes with Geep Cool

Can you be more specific about where the rot actually is and to what extent? By rot they might mean surface rust which is sometimes found on some of the inside edges of the bulkhead even when they are just 3 years old. Steve.

Don't know Steve as I didn't see it, but it was bad enough for them to replace the whole bulkhead. Gripes!

Mine's a 98 reg, and I've driven through a lot of crap and salty roads and I've inspected all up inside it and its mint. Not a spec of rust on the outside either, if it was polished, the bulkhead paintwork would be like new. So get them to physically show you where this so-called rot is. 1998 110 300Tdi White Hard Top

It seems to be getting a popular response from Landrover "sorry sir we can't get the parts",I thought that all car manufacturers were obliged to carry stock for a minimum of 10 years AFTER production has finished,if you can't get parts for a current Landrover within a respectable time that is very poor service.

Made me chuckle this...

free use of dealers motor and 4k of miles not on op's motor - looking for the downside there? Confused

Dealer's going to do some warranty work and other posters are asking if it's necessary.

It's a strange world Rolling with laughter
