I don't know why, but many of our Geneva public transport (TPG) bus drivers seem very sympathetic to and enthusiastic about Defenders. I have numerous occasions over the years where those bus drivers were waving at me or gave me a thumbs up. But this afternoon I met a real enthusiast bus driver.
Driving home from work I was moving steadily along at idle speed in a long car queue along the lake, when a city bus driver in his dedicated bus lane at my right side was going to pass me, but he slowed down and stopped with his window open and signaled that he wanted to say something. Mind, the bus probably had no less than 50 passengers in it. I opened my passenger side window and he asked me where I bought my snow cover, so told him Entreq and their website is www.entreq.de etc. etc.... So he waved me on, but at some point he passed me in his bus lane, and then I had to follow him when the bus lane merged with the normal road again. Two stops further at a school stop where he had to wait for a whole bunch of kids to get in, I could legally pass him again, but he waved me down again when we were side by side. Started telling me that he knows Entreq well, but I could not really stay there with all the cars following me so I had to move on to keep traffic flowing. Less than a km further I stopped in a village to get some cash from a bank terminal, and while I was walking from my car to the bank, the bus again passed me with the driver giving me the thumbs up again.... 2km further I ended up again behind the bus which had been stopping several times to let passengers get off. In this residential area at a next stop I wanted to let him pull out first again, but he waved me forward from his window, so there I go again. He waves me down again when coming side to side, and he starts talking to me thru the windows about the roof tent he is interested in, then starts giving me lengthy compliments about my Defender, etc.... And this all with about 20 commuter and soccer mom cars immobilized behind me. Nobody used their horn as they did not understand what was happening with that big bus and me. Very nice experience You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation. http://youtu.be/yVRlSsJwD0o https://youtu.be/vmPr3oTHndg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_GtzTT9Pdl0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ABqKPz28e6A https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rLZ49Jce_n0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XvAsz_ilQYU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K8tMHiX9lSw https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=dxwjPuHIV7I https://vimeo.com/201482507 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZSixqL0iyHw |

A Defender fanatic bus driver, look at the picture he glued onto his gps/tracking system. (poor quality picture as taken with bberry without using the flash so as not to disturb him) Click image to enlarge You never actually own a Defender.
