I changed mine in an engine I rebuilt. Used a deep reach socket (think it was 10mm)
As you mentioned, they seemed quite fragile and it looked like they would shear off easily if you were ham fisted I wonder if it would help if the engine was hot before un-doing them? |

A few other forums for other cars have suggested a nice hot engine and some penetrating fluid might also help. 1999 Defender TD5 110
