Hi all
This is actually my experience with my limited exposure to defenders.
I have hope of getting a defender since the beginning of yr 2000.
However everytime I test drive a defender I was quite disapointed with the too truck like behiavour,
So eveytime I finished the test drive , I put off the idea of owing one.
Then some time later My wish to get one comes back
TD5 up to 07 Puma I was test driving.
Now with the production coming to an end I was again test driving the 2.2
A 2.2 110 I test drove last yr was improved.
However a 2.2 90 I did again a few months back was not good at all.
So is there someting wrong with me???

I am sure if I wait up next morning I still want a defender
(despite the horrible stories of engine change in low KMs and endless visits back to LR under waranty)
Thanks all classic Freak

FYI...I have a 2012 2.2 and I know what you mean about the clunk...however mine only does it once it has been running at a high-ish speed for around 30 minutes. When the vehicle is still cold it is a dream to drive...nice and smooth. However after a 30 minute country or motorway run it is impossible to drive smoothly around town. Every gear change results in a clunk no matter how hard I try.

Have you been back to the dealers? Mine had a shocking clonk and I took it back. They fiddled about and said something or other wasn't tightened correctly. It improved matters although the clunk is still there I now drive in a way it rarely occurs.

New Zealand 2012 Defender 110 Puma 2.2 XS CSW Santorini Black
Hi mrandmrsh

As time has gone by the clunk has got less bad. I mainly put this down to a change in driving style by me (feathering throttle on gear change) but I also think the clutch has become smoother with age. I think a lot of the clunk came from the non-linear disengagement of the clutch when it was new.

Even when the vehicle has done a long trip (and the clunk is worse), I now find the clunk to be 'truck like' but acceptable.
