Success! Very Happy

After checking and double checking everything under the car and finding nothing, my attention turned to under the drivers seat again.

I was going to run a new earth to the abs ecu and check connection on fuses when I spotted this -

Removed the old terminal from the connector, soldered a new one to the wire and pushed it all back together. A grand total of 15 minutes work and it is fixed. Lets try and forget about the £150 of diagnostics and abs pump checks. :blub:

Just add that to the list of things to check should the same happen to anyone else!

Just resurrecting this thread.....

My defender is in the local independent at the moment for service/MOT etc. At the same time I got them to replace the rear calipers as I've been suffering from seizing pistons for some time. Anyway, on bleeding up the system afterwards they've hit a few problems Crying or Very sad

Brakes seemed to bleed ok (they say) but after a few minutes the pedal would go very soft again. Bled by hand 2/3 times, same problem. They connected up to Autologic and bled through that. On autologic, no fluid would come out at any caliper which, according to autologic, points to a faulty ABS pump.

Anyone recognise these symptoms? I don't want the £2200 or £1100 cost (LR or OEM) they've quoted me either...

Car is stuck with them for the time being. MOT runs out this weekend and it clearly won't pass with goosed brakes so I've no way of getting it home.

If I have to go the breakers route, does anyone know if the Disco 2 and Defender use the same modulator? I can find listings for Discos, but none for the Defender.

Thanks (I hope)

Tony

I'm still having dramas with mine as finding a decent modulator 2nd hand has turned out to be a right pain......need to decide tonight to fork out the £1200 on a new one as I want it back!!! Fortunately I haven't spent the cash from selling my alloys so its 'covered' but the face lift I was planning for my 110 will be delayed Sad

Tony, according to the guys doing mine, in a nut shell as I don't do complicated...I have ABS & TC on mine so can't use a disco one as slightly different. If you have just ABS then they're interchangeable. I don't know the whys and how's etc though, sorry Strong people are harder to kill and generally more useful!

Bummer - I have TC and ABS. Wasn't aware there was a unit that didn't do both though - I'm thinking Disco 2 and I'm sure they were all TC and ABS?

Have to search further - might end up being £1200 lighter as well. In my case, the cash isn't 'spare'. Just back from 2 weeks in the Alps, prior to which I forked out for 5 new Cooper ST Maxx tyres, what an expensive couple of months this is turning out to be Big Cry

I'm pretty sure they're not interchangeable. When I was looking for a modulator repair kit, I found there is one for the Disco, but it won't fit the Defender modulator.

I did however, find a second hand unit from a breaker for £150 and it fitted and bled it myself and its working fine.

So keep looking, they arevoutbthere.

Cheers

Simon

Quick update on mine. Finally collected my 110 today after handing over £1,700 Big Cry

After weeks of showering the web for decent used modulators and being let down by quite a few breakers I decided to bite the bullet and spend the cash from the sale of my alloys. I've been without the truck for nearly 6 weeks and I was getting needy!!!!

Gutted about the spend as had a few plans for the money but, it's done now! Strong people are harder to kill and generally more useful!

And a quick update on mine...

Just got word back from ecu testing and the news is not good Crying or Very sad . It would appear my abs modulator is corroded inside and can't be repaired. Have decided to go for a new one, so that's now on order. Not getting a LR badged one though - it's a £1200 Wabco unit for me as well.

I feel for you both. That's a hell of a lot of mods money used up in maintenance.

I think this could be the death knell for my 110 then. My ABS/TC lights are on. And I need a crossmember and chassis extensions at least.

The MOT has 10 months to go, I will run it until then and strip it for parts.

It would be a shame to scrap it for parts. Worst case scenario you could remove the system all together, but as jimbob says it could just be a blip. Have it read and the fault codes cleared
