Fox shocks and softer springs fitted
Just fitted Fox shocks, along with 1" shorter softer front springs and 2" shorter softer springs on the back..... what a difference to my 110. All bought from Nene overland, Andy was very helpful. Not cheap but dam its good. I also have an uprated rear anti-roll bar, standard bushes and still standard 16" wheels......

i'm really impressed, hopefully the rest of the family will stop complaining about the roll and bounce in the corners!

I love my 90 but also find the ride too bouncy and jarry.

I fitted some Bilstein shocks which helped a lot but its still not good enough.

I'm going to look later and see what colour rating the springs have (having seen other posts on this) I couldn't believe how many different spring ratings there are.

Did you reduce the ride height to improve the ride or was that to improve road holding?

Hi Bob.

I spent ages looking through posts and speaking to a few folk....everyone had a different view on this....ended up with my head spinning.....I'm no expect on anything mechanical....

My 110 spends 99% of its life on the road. We use it for camping, canoes, bikes etc..... I lowered it mainly for 2 reasons..

1. lower centre of gravity, so should be less roll
2. Hopefully it will fit in my garage...I've not tried it yet.

On the nene overland web site they have a link to a no smoke no poke tv advert where they took a defender icon round a round about...it went round flat!...thats what I wanted... So phoned them up and had a wee chat.

I still have super pro bushes to fit, but I'll wait and see how I get on. There is still a little roll, but that will be down to the huge tyre walls I have. I'm going to start researching if 18" or 20" wheels are best...I've heard that 20" wheels will be too big and give a harsh ride.....but I'm going down to IRB at the end of the month, so hopefully I'll get a shot of his 90 and see how that handles....the picture looks like its running on 20" wheels....

Anyway I'll stop waffling.... I'm really chuffed with how it handles.....nice and comfy...with very little roll....

i'm booked in for friday 27th of this month to IRB.

Current funds will only permit going to IRB450 sport. Hopefully I will notice the difference. The numbers don't mean that much to me, but planting my right foot I should notice the difference. Now that my landy handles a little better I should be able to use that extra torque....

I'm hoping I get taken out in Ian's 90 when I'm down. 0-60 in 8.7 seconds.... I'd better start saving for the next upgrade!!!

I'm thinking of softer springs (probably a 1" lower, rather than 2" lower if possible) at the rear as well.

sorry I'm not mechanically minded. Yes they look similar...but mine have been painted grey! All I know is mine are softer than standard Land Rover ones....by how much..no idea....I know no bloody help. You would have to phone Nene and ALive up and ask for spring rates. The 2" lowering at the rear has made my landy sit level now.

Just an FYI, fitting poly bushes will give you a harsher ride, so may not be what you want. There's less flex than standard OE rubber bushes, but they will be less comfortable.

Hi Richard .. Would be really interested to hear how you get on at IRB with the 450 upgrade. I'm on the same journey as you having picked up my 110 yesterday. Looking at lowered springs and new shocks, 18 alloys from Twisted and either a power upgrade from IRB or doing it myself with kit from Bell Auto Services. Please update thread after your visit to IRB.

Richard,

pack some clean undercrackers if you intend to go out with Ian, a 90 just shouldn't go & handle like that, it shouldn't be possible......

& you most certainly will notice the difference, I've got the 410 and the drive-ability is outstanding.

I have fox shocks on my 110 but with a King Springs 2" HD lift and polybushes, it rides very nice!, needs a bit more weight in the back which the full external roll cage and rear store drawer and new rack will provide Smile 2008 Santorini Black 110 XS USW (Sold)

John Eales run a similar set up on their handling kit with surprisingly low spring rates (and 1" dropped in our case) and much stiffer anti roll with a choice of Fox or big Koni shocks.

Rides reasonably but handles a lot lot better! 90XS Tdci John Eales
