We always put winch ones on the demos, they don't have the lower bar and are better looking than the non-winch, in my opinion!

Agree with Jeremy. My dealer did the same thing when I bought the SVX new and wanted a A-bar from the start. I had no idea there were winch and non winch versions at that time.. You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation.

Please feel free to correct me if I am wrong but I believe that the latest A bars from Land Rover no longer have the bottom bar for the spotlights regardless of whether it is the winch or non winch version. The difference(other than the price!) is the fact that the winch version is cutaway at the back to clear the shaped part on the bumper for the winch mounting. Also worth of note that the winch version is only guaranteed to fit the genuine Land Rover winch bumper. If you have an aftermarket bumper then the A bar might not fit. I had one recently but sold it on as I decided that I wanted a steel A bar instead.

Duplicate post for some reason! Not able to delete so i`ve changed it! Sold my almost £500 Soft A bar and bought A S/H Nudge bar from Ebay for £20. Cut the ends off which left me with the A bit. Got it galvanised and powder coated along with a genuine winch bumper all for £150.Very pleased with the results but again have heard so many differing stories about whats legal and whats not. Perhaps a forum sponsor who sells them might have an idea about legality!

Anyone know what the law states about A bars now? I've been told so many conflicting stories re: Steel is only allowed upto a certain date of vehicle / they are not allowed at all unless you can prove why you need one etc etc etc....

The genuine LR soft A-bars like mine are allowed on new vehicles. They actually have an E marking imprinted on them. You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation.
