I think I know what you mean.
Mine does it when I'm not careful with the clutch (under-revving). If I slip the clutch slightly more to keep the revs up until I'm off the mark it doesn't do it. Can also do it 1st-2nd if you're unusually clumsy, and change too quickly? Is that the one? I assume it's either: 1. a clutch release thing, or 2. the anti-stall kicking in momentarily because revs are dropping. Defender "Puma" 2.4 110 County Utility (possibly the last of the 2.4's) |

I don't think it is a problem that needs to be fixed...I think that's just how they are! A lottle Defender foible (one of many) Defender "Puma" 2.4 110 County Utility (possibly the last of the 2.4's)

A friend has a 2.4 110 with just under 4000miles on clock. Went into dealer 3 1/2 months ago for paintwork and other stuff. Came back after 2 weeks with the 'rasping' you have described. Dealer has had it 2 1/2 months but can't sort it out. They gave him a courtesy car, an Epoque which he hated then put pressure on them to sort it out. They couldn't so they got LR involved. Once they got it courtesy car was taken back as they said it was out of their hands and that there was nothing wrong with it despite trying to fix it.
LR engineer said its normal and they all do it so he made engineer get in one parked next to it which didn't do it. Finally after 2 weeks LR engineer said there is a noise that isn't usual, but doesn't have a clue how to fix it. A complaint has now been recorded at MD level and he refuses to accept car back until a satisfactory answer. I will let you know how it progresses. FYI engineer despite saying no problem has admitted that they shouldn't sound like that and it is worrying. |
