Suspension spares: Check, one front and one rear, usable on both cars.
Wheel bearings: Planned to change them (around 100k km) 10k km before big trip. There will also be an extensive service.
Clutch, prop-shaft bearings, vacumepump are planned to take with me as spare.
EGR will be closed soon.

I know that the almost never fail, but if it does during the trip..... It will be a problem.

Almost all other things are serviced by ourself one time or the other. This gives me some confidence. (except for the ECU).

And behind the 200tdi for more than 15k km is not a very good idea.

But using that logic you would have to take a replacement for every mechanical part (and electronic) which could potentially halt the vehicle. The ECU is unlikely to "fail". Yes you can plan, work out your spares list, but ultimaitely you just need to get on with the trip and not worry. If you're worrying that much about the ECU, then I would ask myself "Do I have the right frame of mind for a trip like this?". You can take all the spares in the world, but the bottom line is that if there is a breakdown, chances are you won't have the spare you need, it's just the way it goes. You won't be going alone, so worst case is your mate tows you to a village, you find a mechanic and you wait a few days for a part.

That's exactly the base of my question. Every other part is replaceable by a local mechanic or myself. Except the ECU. For a TD5 it's possible to program a spare and put it away in case you need it. Maybe this is also possible for a puma.

If you really want another ECU as back up? Then get another one and replace the ECU in the vehicle with it, then get it programmed in situ so everything works as it should. The original ECU can then be used as the spare as it is already programmed for your Puma, though IIRC you will still need diagnostic gear to change the ECU serial numbers within the IC and still have to do DDS learn for the 10AS/ immobilizer.

The trip was nov-12 till feb 13 and we drove 20700 km in 10 weeks.
Besides a fuse and a intercooler hose which blew of one time, i snapped a bold on my turbo (top one). Put a clamp on it and drove back to Buenos Aires.

It was a great trip.
