There was a thread here (or maybe it was another forum, but i'm sure it was here) in the last 2 days with a link to a site that showed that the standard LR alarm was Thatcham cat2 already from the factory.

I might be being a bit dim ....but it seems to say 2007 on for the defender....... or pre 1998

I think I have figured it out now.
TD5s have a Lucas AS10 system as do TDCis. This is Thatcham Cat2. Just need a certificate now ...... |

That's not how I read it. Current (since 2007) have a CAT2 alarm/immobiliser. All Defenders (pre '98 ) did have their system certificated as Cat2, but this rating was deleted in 1998, So your 2000 TD5 does not have a Cat2 system. If you do what I had to do to meet insurance requirements (2004 TD5) and upgrade to CAT2, then my insurer insisted on the upgrade being fitted professionally. |
