Powder coat removal?
I have yet again bits that are powder coated that has it peeling off and starting to rust. Shocked
Powder coat really gets on my nerves. Evil or Very Mad
I really would like to remove it and then get them galvanized or zinc coated and then painted. Not always cheaper I know and I also know blasting will be mentioned but I don't want to be bothered going here and there getting galving and blasting done. (It's also easier said than done if I do my A bar when you only have one vehicle as transport)
I'd like to use mechanical removal (and do it myself) i.e. angle grinder but can't use discs because it'll be to damaging to the actual steel underneath. So perhaps something like a abrasive flap kind of thing?

Ideas would b most welcome. I'd rather use paint as at least I can then touch it up if need be and actually get it corrosion protected first. Rather than powder coated over raw mild steel. Rolling Eyes TheThunder RollsπŸ‡¬πŸ‡§πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ

I used grinding disks when cleaning my winch bumper. It took a while and I went carefully, but the steel underneath is very hard and wasn't damaged by the discs.

The new powder coating has covered very well and so far shows no sign of lifting.

I cleaned off all the powder coat (and rust) from my roll cage with an angle grinder and a knotted wire brush. Worked brilliantly and stripped it back to bare steel with no damage. Makes a bit of a racket doing it, and the dust gets everywhere so eye, ear and breathing protection is a must.

Thank-you for the ideas chaps. Bloomin rear ladder is what is doing my nut it. It does it's best to rust despite sorting it only last year. And rivnuts that spin. Rolling Eyes I wish it wasn't there anyway really but I didn't fit it it was fitted already. Neutral TheThunder RollsπŸ‡¬πŸ‡§πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ

Just going through same thing with my corner bumperettes. Powder coating great until it starts the peel. And you get no warning that it's happening until the corner bits make that depressing ping sound as you're washing it! Had a perfectly sound front bumper apart from the flaking last year, took it to blaster/powder coater and he said the blasting wouldn't touch the pc!! Cheaper to buy new bumper from Craddock at £35. Looking at stainless bumperettes.

Good choice, I've got stainless ones and they are so hard wearing I had the offside one 'reworked' so I could refit it after the swing away fit.

You can get them for less on ebay especially if you buy bulk, removed all the paint and filler from my Karmann Ghia using 4 of them, key is not to press hard.
