Performance Test pre / post remap
I came across two performance test diagrams recently.

I was surprised to see that both were showing torque values of 300 and shortly below 300 NM, whereas LR brochures make us believe they TDCi engines produce 360 NM torque. Is this coincidence or do LR systematically reduced NM because of some issues with gear box / transfer box and differentials?

Has anyone else tested the performance? The goons are trying to bring me down!

Land Rover use NM, where most aftermarket companies use lb Ft,

360NM is about 265lb-Ft.

thanks for the clarification / calculation into lb ft.

the graphs seen stated NM.

Cheers

LAND ROVER DEFENDER 2.4 DIESEL 2007 ONWARDS

Power:- Standard Max Power 119 BHP

AUTOLOGICŪ Max Power 149 BHP

Torque:- Standard Max Torque 314Nm

AUTOLOGICŪ Max Torque 393Nm

More graphs here:- http://www.james-french.co.uk/power-upgrades.asp

bingo... that's the stuff, but not from companies advertising for their products, but more from drivers actually buying that stuff and having the performance measured pre and post tuning.

Extra Torque and Horsies!
BigGeorge,

That's what I had done and it is excellent! All facts and figures were laid out before you and I had a detailed discussion with the Workshop Manager beforehand who answered all my queries. A lot of people offering tuning services can be a little 'vague' when it comes to post installation performance figures! People, myself included, want to know in priority how much extra torque they're getting and how many extra horses underneath their bonnet they get for their hard-earned money! If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!

How are people measuring them?

Unfortunatly 'Rolling Road', and 'power meters' are hugely innacurate when it comes to flywheel readings, they measure at the wheel and then makes a calculation to work out the engine power. As you can guess, without knowing the exact power loss through the drivetrain you can't calculate the power at the flywheel.

The only way to do it properly would be to have the engine on a Dyno bench which is what would have been done in the first place to get 122bhp and 360Nm. Unfortunatly unless you are going for a complete new loom and aftermarket ecu taking theengine out and onto the bench is a bit OTT.

REMEMBER!!!

HP and torque are referred at the crankshaft not at the wheels..... (all cars, all types) at STD environment conditions (NN°C, xyz mmHg atmospheric pressure, abc % of humidity,.....)

Are the correction parameters inputed on the bench SW? if yes are they corrects????? Discovery 5 td6 HSE Stornoway Gray Outback Engineering Limited Edition

Anyone remember reading a huge discussion/argument on LRnet few years ago between a guy who claimed his TD5 was the fastest on earth, and another who wanted to prove him wrong? (May have involved a certain air-intake device which I'm too wary to mention)!

Seems the only fair way (apart from a bench of course) is to get a standard vehicle and chipped example on a rolling road one after the other, not scientific, but you'll get a decent bhp/torques comparison at the wheel...

Who really cares?
As 'a layman and a customer' should I really be concerned as to how the actual final figures were derived? On a bench, engine out/engine in, rolling road or 1 in 10 downhill gradient with a tail wind? Personally I think not! My opinion only admittedly! I was informed 30 extra nags and 80nm of extra torque that would improve the driving experience. 'Pays your money takes your choice!'
With all the sales pitches the end result for me after spending my hard-earned was indeed a new driving experience that initially seemed like I had a rocket up my ar5e with an element of guarantee it was not going to be to the detriment of the engine and better fuel economy to boot, what's more my annoying 82mph limiter also disappeared! Result!
Some 13 months later I am still happy, engine still runs and I do have marginal better economy, the sun is beginning to shine and Summer is just around the corner, happy days or what?
