I'm in the South of France at the moment and have been having a squealing noise under load upto about 40mph for the last few days. I've just had a prod around underneath and the front prop shaft universal joint at the transfer box end has quite a bit of play in it and makes the noise when wiggled by hand.
I've got about 750 miles to drive until back home so is it ok to drive until then? Thanks |

if it breaks it will make a mess, I'd get to a dealers as soon as possible or remove the prop and stick diff lock on

As stated - take the whole prop off, stick the diff lock in and drive home.
I had one fail at about 30mph - it was terrifying as it tried to smash it's way through the floor of the footwell. I dread to think about one failing on the motorway... My blog - www.anacreinhampshire.blogspot.co.uk 110 TD5 BuildHERE - sold! 110 Tdci Build HERE - sold! Passat Alltrack - 4x4, auto, 45mpg, gloriously comfortable - but not a Defender! |

Prop shaft has been removed, it looks as if it was just about to explode!
Now gear change clonk is a bit louder, hoping it makes it ok back to Blighty |
