Australia 2004 Defender 110 Td5 SW Alpine White
Anybody know if Andrew at red booster is about.
Im ready to fit one now as we are heading off on a 12 month round oz trip (early Feb) and it occured to me I might want to share the driving, but Clutch is too heavy for Mrs Quentin, (Ive already done the Tdi spring mod) .

No response from Andrews contact email on the website.
Defender Tuning (Australian Red Booster agent) cant raise him either, has had some on order but no-show !!

Red booster
I have one, works perfectly well.

Some points about it...

Don't ride the clutch or rest foot on pedal as its power assisted the clutch will slip.

If you want the pedals level the bite will be low to the floor.

When you adjust the rod and lock the nut off inside the servo use thread lock to stop it from coming loose and adjusting itself up so the clutch slips. I used thread lock once I had the adjustment perfect which took some Fettling after it was fitted, since then 18 months ago its been perfect.

The hoses supplied are cheapo, mine are perishing after 18 months don't let this put you off though.

The rubber gaiter on the back of the servo will deteriorate after a year as will the paint on the servo, again don't be worried it keeps on working

Overall a massive improvement and I recovered from lower back and knee joint pain from town driving and off road on event sites in thee to four weeks so very good. Defender TD5 110 DC (Silver)

Red booster removes clutch switch
Just so u know, the red booster can't fit the clutch switch because of the height to the bonnet.

The kit doesn't allow for the clutch switch.

HOWEVER

You can get your mechanic to run some brake/clutch line to the block the switch mounts on, remotely and then out of the other side of the block attach the pipe from the kit thus keeping the clutch switch and all the genuine set up and features of the vehicle. I have had this done no problems. It means you can effectively have an in line switch mounted flat beside the red booster device.

Just a note, at present the clutch switch if bought new are coming through incorrectly boxed, MSK500010 you are actually getting the wrong part though the MSK500020.

Keep your old switch and block and buy the unions etc to use. Then flare the ends etc and connect up that way. Better to get a competent mechanic to do this unless you know what you are doing. Defender TD5 110 DC (Silver)

I fitted red booster to mine. Couple of Things I learnt through a weeks adjustment....

At the rear of the servo there is a split pin and two nuts on a threaded bar that adjusts the pedal height. Inside the servo, I.e. if you take off the master cylinder ther is a rod that pushes / activates the clutch master cylinder. This rod should be adjusted so it is extremely close to the cylinder put not pushing on it when pedal at rest. (Set the pedal height first though)

If you do this then you can set the pedal at the position level with the brake pedal, but the bite will be fairly low to the floor, though not slipping and properly disengaging the clutch. It's been on mine for 18 months with no dramas.

A tip is to use loctite thread lock or similar on the rod inside the servo once set and tested as the lock nut on mine worked its way loose through vibration and the bar adjusted itself up and the clutch was slipping. Once I had adjusted it and used thread lock, there has been no change or problems since and the clutch works perfectly (18 months)

The reason for the low bite when the pedal is adjusted level with the brake pedal is that the throw on the bar actuated in the Servo isn't quite long enough with the pedal in this position to bring the bite up further away form the floor so installers bring the pedal up so high that the bite is then in a normal position.

SO

RED booster, worked perfect for me once set up,
With the bite in normal position, pedal sits high
With the bite closer than usual to the floor, you can adjust the pedal to bang level with the brake pedal.
Don't rest your foot on the pedal, anybody who rides the clutch constantly after the first centemeter of movement the clutch will be slipping and the pedal is so light you won't feel that cm till you get used to it.

OVERALL

Would never own a defender without a red booster, I would have something made up if the company went bust or WHY. I do tons of clutch use on and off road, towing and recovery for work and pleasure and wouldn't be without it. Back problem in lower lumbar GONE, leg and knee aches after a busy day GONE Smile. Hi Andrew
Been a while since you posted this but I've been to busy to get any spare time to spend on my defender which is currently sorn for bait of tlc.
I'm interested in red booster but every time I try there website it keeps coming up to go to full site,which is what I'm doing Big Cry I've tried copy and pasting your link but no joy, my question is have got a contact telephone number of the supplier cheers paul

There are other servo kits available, just google remote servo and see what is available.

I thought about fitting a remote servo under one of the front wings under the bonnet but did the clutch pedal mod instead (with great results). 2005 Td5 90 XS

I also done clutch spring mod a while back but I wasn't overly impressed tbh, I'll be googling remote servo now
