Hi all
Just did the LR Experience this morning, and it was great fun! Pics are here http://tinyurl.com/yl4h369. However, afterwards there was this clanking noise from the back, esp when driving on uneven surfaces. Eventually when we got home I shook the landy while SWAMBO looked underneath, and we found the following: The rear suspension arm thingie is bolted to the chassis via two couplings, each with a rubber stop. The one rubber stop has cracked and is completely loose from the coupling/mounting, resulting in the arm banging against the chassis when the rear suspension moves. Not sure if I am making sense, but here are the pics, No.1 is the normal one, and No.2 is the cracked one, pics taken while lying underneath the vehicle. I doubt this was caused by the mild off-roading at LR Experience, and looks more like the rubber stop cracked due to fatigue, is that possible? My question is: is it safe to drive like this to take the landy to the dealer, or should we rather get it there on a flatbed? No.1 No.2 |

Its fine don't panic, that is the rear anti roll bar and doesn't affect the safety of the vehicle as such, you could just loosen the clamp and push the rubber back in, or wait and get the dealer or any local garage to pop it back in. Because you've been working the rear axle the anti roll bar gets some stick no big deal. Original Member Pie n Pea Club.

Thanks Willy! Never had it happen before, not on my Td5 110 not on my D2 Td5. Weird that it would happen on a brand new Puma with only 1000km on the clock!? I'm thinking that the rubber was cracked before, and the off-roading we did today just worked it loose? |

I think thats the split they use to put them on, they are consumables but you're right, usually ok, I'd be proud if I was you I've never managed to do that yet Seriously though I would check all the mounts and make sure the bar is fastened down correctly. Then have a quick look round the axle mounts / bushing etc just in case.
The lower class Land Rover Defenders don't have the roll bars i think. Original Member Pie n Pea Club. 110 HCPU Tipper |

As above. The rear anti-roll bar. Just take the bracket off, put the rubber insert back in and tighten back up again - that's all the dealer will do.
You're not in any danger with it out (many people remove the anti roll bar anyway - to improve articulation) but if it continues to bang around it'll eventually damage itself or the bracket and the fix will be more expensive (and require parts that might not be in stock). I'd just put it back together if I were you and mention to the dealer next time you're in. One that started out as a 2.4 TDCi 110 XS + New Defender 110 First Edition |

This is yet a bad build quality example. This bush has never been fitted correctly at the factory or spotted at the PDI. 2008 RS4 gone, 123d M Sport, and a Puma 90 XS..

Hey. The Defender is a hand build car. Everybody who works makes mistakes.
I know somebody who doesn't make mistakes. Roel 1984 90 2.5 na Diesel - RR V8 (1994-2001) 1997 Camel Trophy Discovery 300TDI (2001-2009) 2005 G4 Discovery III 4.4 V8 (2008-2018) It's gone but it still hurts. 2003 90 Td5 (2009-now) |
