Sealing seatboxes
Who has silicone sealed their seatboxes from inside? I find in the winter a lot of moisture and a little bit of dirt / dirty water. This shouldn't be I know which obviously means water is getting in. If I seal them well is there likely to be bad condensation occur instead and keep it moist then too?

I've tried both sealing and vented but seem to get condensation either way.

I got one of the under cubby electrical boxes from gmb Germany and am just putting the finishing touches to moving ecu, relays and fuses from the seat box.

I think it's the surest way to keep these electrics dry and safe.

I sealed my seat boxes before my arctic trip, I was concerned about battery temperatures and the gel freezing, once done , no problem with water, ice etc

I also put a few silicone anti moisture bags in there ...

I can't understand why they are such a bad fit, the std battery has a breather pipe so no real need for gaps

I was thinking of something along those lines too. Funny you should mention that. KEEP CALM AND Drill ON

I was thinking of that for the cabin, let alone the battery box Whistle My Disco 'best bits'

I use these in all our vehicles to keep them dry inside. Work a treat and re-usable.

Just brainstorm but what about fitting a pc-ventilator in the lid? Wouldn't that do the trick to solve the condensation problem? Of course after sealing the box.

Power for it is close by and I don't think they consume much power.

Only downside is ofcourse it's not a mechanical mod, but most of us have an old pc laying around, so should be cheap.

I think "in lid" becouse in the side reduces wading depth. It should blow outwards of course.

Good idea zone30 but I took my defender to the arctic in February this year after sealing it and it was fine and still is, the silicone packs work well and don't consume any electricity

I like the packs on amazon Thumbs Up

I use something similar in my wife's Freelander.
In the winter the build up of condensation when parked up was a rear pain and took some time of de-misting before it was clear to drive (start wiping the windows and you had to finish the job to avoid smears so it was easier to leave them to de-mist naturally). When it was really cold it was worse because the condensation froze on the inside which meant you had to melt it before drying it off. Bought some silica-gel bags from Ebay (4 x 500G) and hey-presto, no more condensation whatever the conditions.
I use two bags at a time and leave the other two in the house to dry out and be ready for re-use. I find that normally I have to rotate them every couple of weeks. In the vehicle I leave one under the passenger seat or in the door-pocket and one in the tray on the dash. The effect really is remarkable and I have no hesitation on recomending them to anyone.
