Pulling away from a junction recently someone decided to overtake me. Unfortunately he did not know how fast a Puma is. By the time I hit 4th gear he was stationary beside me, i.e. unable to get ahead of me. By the time I hit 6th he was back in behind me. He was in a Frontera and probably used to overtaking older Land Rovers. I find I get bemused looks when I am rocketing up a hill in the outside lane overtaking those struggling in the inside lane. The Puma sure can go! 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

My Puma is as slow as a week in the jail and not fast at all. Racing Fronteras on public roads proves nothing to anyone. 2008 RS4 gone, 123d M Sport, and a Puma 90 XS..

Thats not becuase you are driving what is perceived to be a slow Landrover - its the green eyed monster driving the other car thats ed they have'nt got one - so to feel better they have to prove how much faster they are than you - it makes them feel better!!! I get cut up all the time in the Puma - even more so than when I had my little Lotus Rollerskate - but its much more fun looking down on them than up!!! It is weird how other people repsond when they see certain "types" of car on the road Defender 110 Puma Utility XS |

How true, on my way back up to Scotland generally when I start to overtake something at say around 70 - 75 miles and hour they often speed up once they realise it's a Land Rover, but luckily now I have no limiter so they get a real shock. Original Member Pie n Pea Club.

No racing involved. I stayed within the legal limit at all times. The Frontera driver started to overtake as I was accelerating normally.I was leaving a 50 kph area and entering a 100 kph area. The Puma gets there so quickly. Do not know what 75mph is like as 60 mph is our limit over here. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel 1992 110 200tdi csw -Zikali 2008 110 2.4 tdci csw-Zulu 2011 110 2.4 tdci csw-Masai |

I live in a rural area. Frequently get stuck behind tractors with trailers also lorries climbing hills. I find the brisk acceleration of the Puma is very useful in these situations. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

He would have had even more of a shock if i was in my defender with its 35"symex tyres on twin motor winch front and rear full cage etc etc not forgetting the 2.7L TDV6 under the bonnet and would be still able to pull away from him well past 120
Though it does get a tad scarey at anything over 90 lol. PS, Thats a nice sticker Willy Pete |

I've just been re-reading your PDF of the build so far from the summer, and that is a beautiful truck Pete. Have you an updated PDF of the final build? Peter

The problem I always encounter is that low gearing means you can only pull away from the lights slowly. By the time everything is up to speed you are stuck behind three cars that overtook you from standstill then travel at 5km/h below the speed limit
I am also sure that the Puma's speedo reads more accurately than many other cars. I find it is pretty much spot on at 70km/h (compared to the GPS) but most other cars seem to be doing 65. It only gets worse the faster you go. 105km/h on the speedo = 100km/h GPS. I am therefore always overtaking people who probably think they are doing the speed limit but their speedos are just over-reading. They probably think I am being arrogant in my big 4WD and breaking the speed limit and often speed up resulting in a ridiculous left lane-right lane stand-off 2007 Defender 110 1970 Alfa Romeo 1750GTV |
