Clutch failure
Out in my vehicle today and when changing down from 5th to 4th slowing in some really appalling hail storm couldn't get in gear. Coasted to side of road. Swtched off ignition to have think. 2mins later started up again and able to engage gears. After a mile or so same problem but bit more dangerous as approaching a busy roundabout. Once stationary, able to get into gear but no power on release of clutch. Anyone else had this failure? Bit disapointing with only 21,000 miles on the clock.

On a more positive note - a big thanks to Simon driving a red 90. Like me a landi newby. Towed me to a safe spot to await recovery. AND came back later to make sure we were ok. And thanks also to Mo in a black 110. Despite a car full of kids stopped to offer assistance. Wouldn't have happened breaking down in another make of vehicle!

Steve

Hey there
2 weeks ago i had a similar failure.
It was the old Ford spec clutch that had packed up and they had to replace it with a new spec clutch.
They said something about the springs coming loose and then, depending on where they and how they're lying, you struggle with gear selection, etc, etc.
Cheers

I had the clutch replaced on my 130 @ 18,000 Km
How do i know that the new type as opposed to the old type was fitted?
It's starting to get the same death rattle it had before, oddly its almost managed to do another 18,000 km!

I'd love to know if there is something stronger to put in there, if it's suffered the same fate as last time.

I was lucky i did'nt get stranded on the side of the road, i complained about a fairly serious rattling noise at idle that went when the cluch was engaged, as well as an even worse noise when as the engine came to a stop having been switched off!

When removed the clutch springs in the drive plate were indeed very loose, infact the cetre plate had started to tear apart where the peened over outer parts are joined together, hence the loose springs.

The new clutch also reduced the drivline backlash at the time.

Question

If you had your clutch replaced a year or more ago there's a good chance the idiots used the same spec clutch as original. Maybe they can give you a serial number or something?
Once the new spec clutch is in i believe all is well...
Cheers,

Can they still order the old spec clutch? I'll get mine replaced in a few weeks and I hope they get the new one. Hans

I doubt the factory will send them the old spec part, but they may get old stock from your local head office?? I would phone them and confirm they're getting the new spec clutch.

Cheers
