thought I'd start with a few before anyone jumped to the conclusion I might be moaning (never have never will - not me)
looking for a little advise along the lines of consmer sales etc. I know was something on here recently about 'point of sale' but I can't seem to find it. the question is this - It appears I have a warranty claim on my tyres and although I've approached Continental directly if things get messy I'm keen to hand the vehicle over to LR to sort out as after all thats where I bought the car (and effectively the tyres) however LR had said I need to take this up with continental - is that right? cheers  |

only in so much that others have discounted it and that there's no tracking adjustment on the back (to the best of my knowledge).

You need to read your warranty, i suspect it will specifically exclude tyres. As they have covered 30k they were obviously "fit for purpose". 2005 Td5 90 XS

your LR dealer should know better,
you have no contract between yourself and continenetel. if LR refuse to offer ay compromising solution then you will have to sue them and they in return can either decide to settle or join Conti as a 2nd defendant (aka part 21 defendant) all in all you can not sue Conti directly as they did not sell you the tyres ( for you to instigate legal proceedings against someone you must first prove that you have contractual relationship (locus stand)dont worry about terminology .

thanks for that.
I'm a bit reluctant to go buy some new tyres if there is a problem with them thats a warranty claim especially since they're on 50% worn at most. they have a lifetime warranty on them so I'd be mad not to pursue that. If they're just rubbish then fine I'll go buy something differenty but there's several on here who think they're good and I've always thought that till now. |

As has already been said 30K is a good life for tyres just by a new set like everyone else.
I have had a number of Land Rovers and they do wear the tyres on the inside and outside it is due to the front being pushed hard when cornering, my wife wore a set of fronts out after 5K, its called fair wear and tear. As for life time warranty, do you expect them to be replaced when down to the limit because you expected them to last longer. Don't make old people mad. We don't like being old in the first place, so it doesn't take much to  us off.

doesn that mean if you buy something from a reputable manufacturer through a unknown outfit on line the manufacturer can wash their hands and direct you back to the point of sale? arc99 I believe the reason conti have a lifetime warranty is for defects and not as you've suggested not for wear. As the tyres are only 50% worn and I've been advised the tyres are faulty and that they should be a warranty issue with either land rover or conti then clearly thats the route I will take before parting with £500. as bit like when my gearbox failed - I don't turn round to land rover and 'hey don't worry I've had a couple of years out of it I'll pay for a new one'

Exactly. We sell stuff all over the world, when they ask if their local shop will warrant stuff, they are surprised to be told they have to return it to us.

In the case of an uncooperative or absent retailer, section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act can help if bought wholly or in part on a credit card - not sure how that stands with a finance company or if it might help the OP. Chris |

Your contract is with the dealer who sold you the vehicle. Not with Continental tyres and not with Land Rover, but with the dealership which sold you the vehicle.
If your tyres have done 30,000 miles and the expected mileage is 50,000 miles then it could be argued that you have had 60% use out of the tyres and so they might want a contribution of 60% from you IF the dealership/LR/Continental tyres agree that there is a valid warranty claim. Had a tyre which was damaged beyond repair and yes the insurance company measured tread depth, compared it to new and only forked out the percentage I had left on tyre. Good luck. Brendan |
