s220
Hello....

I have a 2004 90 x Tech td5. I am on a mission to beat will.i.am at his game. Laughing
Has anyone fitted a s220 turbo to their td5?

I've fitted lots of them...

As they were my turbo (along with the whole other range of bolt on VNT replacement turbo's), developed for me by Turbo Technics. BAS is also able to sell them (as we agreed this at the time) - but he is the only other authorised distributor. Everyone else that sells them is mealy buying them off myself or Pete. No one else had any input in their development, testing, tweaking, etc.

And if they say otherwise they are lying.... and this does show up in the set up at times.

This is a great turbo, and with a dual channel limiter box, high quality intercooler and exhaust make for an excellent conversion with matched mapping.

comes in a BIGGA BOX.... Laughing , from fitting them myself, and after Ian has set them up, the delivery of power is there from low down revs ( I think this is correct, i'm no engineer , but no doubt his lordship will be along later to explain in the way he does......all big words to me... The S220 turbo has a different compressor wheel, compressor housing and exhaust wheel to the smaller S208 turbo (which has the same max flow as a standard turbo - just with much nicer characteristics).

Basically more flow (volume) without increasing boost.

Just for different applications...

The S208 (as per yours) is designed for mildly tuned Td5's and offers a massively improved pick from low RPM and mid range. When the VNT mechanism is fully open, the max flow of the turbo is very similar to that of a standard fixed geometry turbo. However, what it does do is offer much better drive-ability. However, max BHP will not increase over a standard turbo. What it will do however is change the torque curve and characteristics - which is where the biggest difference comes.

However, the S220 - with the the larger compressor wheel/housing - allows more flow for a given boost pressure.

The S220 was designed for greater power outputs - and improve performance. Commonly classed as a 'hybrid' - if you are after increased power outputs (typically 180bhp and 430Nm upwards) this is the turbo for you - but still with great low range and mid-range drive-ability. The most I have seen is 235bhp and 535nm running this turbo and other modifications.

another question, what is the difference between the 208 and the 220, i have reading up a bit and it seems in theory that the 220 will have greater volume of air but will have a great lag than a 208. what would give the overall best performance and least lag, without pressuraing above 1.2 bar?
