Well I'm a first time Defender owner since July and boy it's the most satisfying vehicle I've owned.

The negative comments on the PUMA on other threads are enough to make you run-a-mile.

The wife reckons I'm tapped by the way, she just doesn't get the defender..

I've had a few Landies over the years a brace of Series 2s and 3s, a 90 diesel, 4 90 Tdis, a couple of 90 Td5s, a 90 50th Anniversary and now my Puma. The most well rounded wagon, but still with loads of that proper Land Rover charm is my Puma. I love it every time I drive it. Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Greg

My first LR (in about 1988) was a 1963 SIIA 109 SW which I rebuilt from the road up. Loads of fun, scraped knuckles & kept me on the straight & narrow as a teenager.

More recently I bought a Freelander 2 SE as I liked the look of it, but soon decided it was a rather pointless car as it can't tow heavy loads at low speed (without clouds of clutch smoke) and has a boot the size of a much smaller car.

Much to my wife's disgust I moved "up" to a 2009 90 CSW, now your talking. Fun to drive, fantastic at moving my boat around & the kids love it! Thumbs Up

If you're looking for comfort & luxury, look elsewhere. If you want a real LR, this is it.

Only problems so far (touch wood) are a water-logged passenger footwell - new seal required & on order.

Very happy with my decision. Very Happy ----------

Great thread - always been very happy for any excuse to take my puma out, and the recent weather has just been further encouragement - fire up, on with the heated seats and screen, and a heater that actually works, and everyone is happy - and off into the snow..brilliant!

I've got the best of both worlds - I bought both!

110 for me, F2 for my Wife. I like knowing that she and the younguns are in the safest car, whatever the weather. I love the 110 to bits but it's nice to appreciate the luxury of the F2 now and again too. One that started out as a 2.4 TDCi 110 XS

Weve owned quite a few landys over the years, from a S2a 109, S3 88, 300 tdi 110, td5 110, and now the xs TDCI 110 ...
Whilst they've had their faults can I say thank you to Landrover for all the wonderful times that I have had driving these thing all over the place.
The power of the TDCI is nice to have when driving long distances, the bit of poke when you need to put your foot down to pass someone or go up a hill makes the drive more relaxed, the 6th gear is a wonderful thing to keep the noise and fuel use down as well.
Sure its got its faults interior light not working when the back door opens, some drafts and leaks as well, but these are there to remind you that youre in a Landrover.
Its an XS model so can I say a really big thank you for all the wonderful gadgets, as some of them are truly exceptional.
Like most - we have had a drop of snow and ice to deal with in Cornwall, and the place normally grinds to a halt, but with the low ratio gears, traction control and anti-lock brakes we were able to pop out to see the wonderful blanket of white that covered the area, go to the pictures 60 miles away, go shopping and visit friends in remote villages in much greater safety .
All the shiny toys worked effortlessly, but the biggest thanks must go for the heated windscreen and the heater - which get a resounding 12 out of 10 for both !!
Parked up in an exposed area over night it took less than 2 mins to totally de-ice the screen. We did have the heated leather seats as well, but I quickly whipped them out to fit Dormobile ones in but while we had them my partner fell in love with them!
The heater in the cab is so hot I have to turn it down after a few mins, otherwise I have to stop and remove several layers of coats and jumpers and douse my left leg with water to stop it burning. (note this is not a complaint!!)

Well said. Beautiful to drive. Never thought a Defender could be this smooth, this quiet, this capable and this comfortable yet still be the tough old war horse we know and love. I have never owned a "normal" car but a Land Rover. I make my judgements on past incarnations which is how it should be. This incarnation of the Defender must be every bit as quiet, as refined and as comfortable as earlier Range Rovers. Prior to this I drove a 90 turbo diesel for six years, followed by a 110 200 tdi for 14 years. Compared to them the Puma is a most wonderful vehicle. Then there is the 3 year warranty which is something I never had before. Anyway about 18 months in and I am still on cloud 9. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

Well touch wood now mine seems to be fixed I can fully appreciate again all that's good about it. My 110 TDCi XS utility wagon is much more comfortable than its 110 Td5 county DCPU predecesor, especially on long journeys. The anti-roll bar suspension setup is much better on road and yet causes no noticable off road limitation. All we've got to now is to persuade Land Rover to fit better tyres than the woeful Grabber TRs. Suppose I shall just have to bite the bullet and put something else on (GY Wrangler AT/SAs look like they might do my job) now winter is nearly over and my seemingly hard to balance 7.50 XZLs on HD rims will soon retire to the shed for the spring/summer autumn. However the tight farmer in me says I'll just have to flog the TRs for a while yet - they seem worth little on ebay!

Great vehicle - makes me smile every time I drive it providing it starts!

Hmm. What do I love?
I love the way that I want to drive it all over the place, but I find myself not because I don't want the miles to rack up on it...
I love the way that I am always looking for somewhere else to drive it off road, even if it means a curb.
I love that my wife and kids always want to be in it, and when we have to take the other one, my kids just look at me as if I have said no to getting a dog.
I love the fact that at least here, in my neck of the woods, I have a different vehicle, not one that every one and their mother in law has.
I love the fact that if need be, I can leave the freeway at a pretty good clip, climb a mountain, go over railroad tracks and about anything that I can think of just to get away from international spies or mercenaries....(jason bourne and james bond wish they had one. ) Razz
I love the fact that I don't wonder if while on a trip, this road being the one less traveled if for a good reason or not, just hit it.
I love the leather heated seats, the driving position,the power windows, the heat, the cold, the endless space for the cubby, that cute little clock in the middle, the fact that my kids asked for the air to be turned down while traveling through the Balkans in 45 plus weather, putting the heat on mid range becasue it was just too damned hot inside traveling in the alps in minus 10 weather.
I am 5'6", 200 lbs, but I feel like a tall man... Laughing amazingly enough, I am very comfortable in the cockpit!
the list could go on and on, but I think I am going for a drive... Thumbs Up 2008 Defender 110 60 year Edition (sold unfortunately)
IN the hunt for another Puma for the wifey!
