Has anyone fitted a 'Front Centre Belt Floor Mounted 3 Point Inertia' as supplied by Exmoor Trim?
I have to be able to fit 5 in it or it will have to go, so I'm going to try out a middle seat but can't work out how the belt will work as the pictures on the various exmoor trim sights aren't particularly clear.

Have thought about it, but there's a couple of problems. The main one is I wouldn't be able to fit it in my parking space.
The only occasions that I need the 5th seat are short journeys with small children. Hopefully that will work. Otherwise it's a case of changing the back seats. I also have the need to carry five people (Wife & my Children) and I thought I came up with a good idea! Search ebay for transit double seats, lots of Transit van drivers dont want the double seats so sell them, alot of them are like new and also have the seat belts fitted. The biggest problem to overcome will be getting passed various vehicle checks, you will have to notify DVLA as it's classified as a 4 seater only (see your registrisation document) and then there's the problem of it being signed off from a safety aspect before submitting for an MOT, not sure how to do this? |

I see that nobody was able to help Fandango but 3 years have passed and I have the same question.
Bought a 3 point seatbelt from Exmoor Trim and took it to my local independent for a 30 minute install. Went back an hour later and was told that it wouldn't be a simple job. The inertia reel could not be mounted to the bulkhead as it just thin aluminium (though I thought it should be mounted to the floor) without some major reinforcement work. The other problem apparently is that the original fixing points for the lap strap and "recepticle" will not accept the new parts. I was also told that the part was for a rear seat and not front... So, has anybody managed to fit a three point seatbelt to their defender..? Thanks... |

There should be a strengthening plate for under the floor - It should be mounted in the center of the seat, and utilise the existing seat belt points. I haven't fitted one but I spoke direct with Exmoor about then before Christmas. If your unsure ring the direct, I found them most helpful. They will also tell you it is only suitable for an adult.

this is something i have put a lot of thought into for the same reasons. i consider using a 4 point race harness and a cross bar. quite a lot of work but its about safety.
it would be a non inertia reel affair. |
