wood stain
hi all especially wood workers.

i am looking for a nice bright mid red wood stain to if not match then compliment the rutland red paint on my car. it is to colour a plywood deck lid i have made. i have been all over the usual b&q type shops and all the ronseal cuprinol stuff is either woodland shades or trad ones like mahogany i have found protek [sp] who do one called poppy but it is quite pink. i'm thinking of a conteprary shade, a good vibrant red?

anyone out there in the trade or serious hobby line know of a brand i could use to get an off the shelf colour?

cheers Rhubarb and custard let fly with their secret weapon.

You could allways keep it authentic for a Defender and spill some ATF on it Whistle

Its a 8x4 of wbp hardwood plywood at 12mm thick. 27quid sawn to 46.5x61 inches and i got the off cuts. Once i had made the 4 big holes where the hood sticks go i then marked it up to match the unsquare tub so it looks even. In the end i have got some b&q own brand light mahogany stain it's a bit more orange than i wanted but it is not offensive needs 3 coats but it will be ready by the time i head north so it is protected. Rhubarb and custard let fly with their secret weapon.

Oh and round the edges i will stick some single sided adhesive foam to seal it to the tub a bit once it is stained. Rhubarb and custard let fly with their secret weapon.

It may be a bit of teaching grandmothers to suck eggs and the like but paint the cut edges with a good endseal product or at the very least a pva glue(helps to stop the ply delaminating from the edges)
