hi
I thought sharks only inhabited the Maltese isles..
i still cannot swallow the sad feeling for visiting one locally who just had a hcpu that i really wished to have.
but he seemed to hold on to his 12000 price tag. which i think was too high... i did not even haggle to avoid having him hooking me up.

thanks anyway i will keep an eye on autotrader.co.uk.
maybe something decent shows up.

Where in the UK are you visiting..? There are some good dealers near me (that I have bought from, Defenders and Discovery's), both main dealers and independents.

Also depends what you are looking for, if its price based, then Autotrader is a good place to start. If you want an going support and service relationship, maybe the price isn't the only factor.

cheers

Dealerships I find have periodic attitude adjustments and one minute they may be good....the next bad.....

Just look for the model you want and go over it with a fine toothcombe. Finding a decent dealer WITH the TD5 model you want is quite a 'big ask' I would say perhaps? If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!

Roger Youngs at Saltash Cornwall (just across the water from Plymouth), the biggest Defender dealer in the UK and more importantly they are very, very good at sales and aftersales, go elsewhere at your peril this dealer knows the Defender inside out, upside down and back to front.

^^^^

Maybe so but if he doesn't have a TD5 HCPU on the forecourt he's no flippin' use to MRover is he? Whistle

He doesn't appear to have one at the moment.....

There are a couple of pick ups available at James French in Oxfordshire including a TDCI. You'll pay top dollar but rest assured you'll get a decent truck with excellent after service. (After service may be difficult perhaps where you are?)

Regardless, I would put good money on it that they can source exactly what MRover requires Thumbs Up You only have one life, live it....forget the cost.

I know but travelling from Gozoa a small island of the Maltese archipelago in the Mediterranean Sea to Cornwall is a long way to travel on a hunch or supposition.

hi thanks for interest.

the problem is servicing and repairs are going to be done by myself i guess.. Neutral perhaps am asking to much out of myself. few mechanics can handle the td5s. and the few 'land rover' dealers will dearly charge you.

i just want a decent truck to start with, as a good runner and tow truck for my 1 tonne + plant trailer. i dont wish to get a shaggy truck to redo ground up... i cannot afford such time and money. i'd rather start doing up my 1977 s3 (present runner).

i contacted a local auto transporter and his yard is in Leicester LE7 1NS so if they happen to be in that area it would be cool cos it would be easier to pick up. he told me it will cost about 1150 euros to carry such truck here.

my choice is a 110 td5 High Capacity Pick Up for loading reasons. even if a times it looks a bit longish/big. Is the 110 equiped with a standard type tub? or there is more than one size of HCPU to use on a 110. a 110 standard pick up looks nice as i ran another 1976 s3 in that form. and it truely has good looks. but it cannot take a pallet, and also the sickle bar mower does not fit in nicely. so .. Rolling Eyes perhaps i fit it with one of those camper conversions that slide in the HCPU.

from what i have read HCPU can fetch between 7 to 10 grand..

nah...
thanks for the message though.

Agree Thumbs Up
But as K9 says ... is there a TD5 HCPU there.....
Nowadays most of the main dealers only have wagons less than 4 yrs old on their books - so maybe not have any TD5's at all..
Most only have Discos and RR's on the forcort as they are the main ones that sell ...

Joseph - how about asking the site sponsors directly to see if they can find one for you and deal with them? Very Happy Poppy - TDCI (Puma) 110XS 2.2 - Camper conversion - see the build here - https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic56530.html

thanks for the links.

i wouldn't mind if it were a 200tdi or a 300tdi.. it would still be strong enough for me. we dont have great motorways here just hill climbs that i dont bother tackling on a slow pace. but late td5 is what i can get in order to avoid excessive taxation costs.. a 300tdi may easily add up to around 8000 in taxes i was told !!!! pity i am coming across many neat 300tdi s in HCPU format..

well what can i say..

Sadly we just won't get any td5 commercial Defenders at all.

Remember the age of these and through they're very nature they will have been worked, usually hard.

Good luck with the search! Thumbs Up
