There was an interesting feature on the benefits of 2SO in a Defender in last months LRO or LRM. Forgot which of the two it was.
The essence of the article was that they questioned very much what the real benefit can be of adding 2SO to a 4SE (i.e. a 4 stroke engine). Food for thought I guess..... You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation.

Thanks anorak I may just go ahead with that reccomendation

In reply to the article I have done a fair amount of research on ot. I know the benifits out way any scare story. I've used many fuel and oil mixtures in the army for climate change operations. Of course the difference is the army label there oil with there own coding so the branding remains a mystery Razz

Ill have a look at the article someone may have found something new. My only worry is mixing fuel works fine on 200/300 tri and other older engines. oNly did the extra research as puma is very nee to me

As yours is a 2.4 the cheapest Jaso FB spec is best. At B&Q there's currently 20% off Carplan oils so you'll get their Carplan 2SO (labelled motorcycle oil) for about £4 a litre. You ain't going to get it cheaper anywhere Thumbs Up

I have been using Comma and it seems to be good stuff. I get is from a trader on ebay and it is about £17 for 5 litres delivered.

I was using carplan but the Comma stuff seems to be better.

I looked into 2SO and did some research, eventually I went for Millars EcoMax instead, you use lots less of it so it works out cheaper in the long run, bought 5L from Opie on one of their specials, I can honestly say it seems better already and I've only done a few miles so far. Top service from Opie too. Thumbs Up

When you say you use a lot less how much do you use on a fill and is that in a 2.4 or a 2.2 or does it matter what engine.

I add 1/1000, so 50ml per tank rather than around 250ml of 2so, so far so good. Here's a link to halfords reviews etc, I bought a 5L can which will last for 100 fill ups, I've got 2 cars and will be using it in both. I seem to remember somebody saying NOT to use 2so in Puma engines, not sure why now though, the Ecomax can be used in any diesel. Mines a Td5.

50ml is a lot less than the average amount other people use. maybe its an experimental thing.

50ml is using Millars, that's the rec usage at 1/1000, not 2SO

Using comma at the moment as a local shop gets me a box of 12 X 600ml bottles at a good price.
As for not using 2so, a lot of modern trucks burn a little engine oil as a matter of course. A truck driver told me that. Fair enough it is not 2so but he thought it was a good idea to add to the Puma. Maybe time (years) will give us definitive answer but at the modest amounts we are using I cannot see it doing any harm. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel
