The main dealers may also sell u an extended warranty which is non land rover but offers the same cover at a cheaper price. Hunters are part of inchcape I believe and sell their warranty at around 75% of the price of the 'genuine' one. Other alternatives are someone like warranty direct who will compete on price.
I must admit, one of the considerations I had selling my last truck at 3 and a bit years old was 3 years more warranty at that sort of price. We're currently using warranty direct for the range rover and have had no issues with their service and they offer a much better level of cover than land rover would for the age. ![]() |

Cannot say it helps you in the decision - I for myself regret that I“ve extended the standard warranty by one year.
There are some excemptions from liability concerning the extend warranty - though that may depend on how the dealer you visit interprets the fault. It“s mainly the parts that are subject to wear that are excluded. But that“s not the main point I“m struggling with. I conceive the warranty as pretty handicapping to modify my car. Exaplme: I aked the dealer about it and he replied that when larger tyres were put on all claims about drivetrain issues were rejected. He had someone with a fault in a roll bar bush that wasn“t repaired under warranty due to that argument. Tell me (on a technical basis) why ... So why pay for something while every effort is made from "them" not to let you enjoy it. I wouldn“t dare to drive a new Defender a mile out of the reach of the bring-me-home-assistence that came with it. Until she were given the 3 years to show all the faults which were added to her at the factory. But from then one I would want to modify it hugely. So now I“ll have to wait another year or void the money I paid for the warranty. |

It depends on the level of cover provided i.e how much will they pay on indivdual claim ? will they pay for a complete replacement engine if required ? or are there claim limits like £500 for each claim ? i would be inclined to keep my money in my pocket.
Warranty companies are like insurance companies and bookies they,re happy to take your money but not too keen to give it back! 2005 Td5 90 XS Steve |

The dealer did offer a cheaper, by about £100, warranty (still from Landrover) but that only covered "major" items and we all know sods law......
I had thought about 3rd party warranties but my experience of them has not been good, quick to take your money but the cover never seems to quite cover the problem you have. I must admit I didn't ask how long the Landrover warranty could be extended for but I assume it will be 5 years as this is the oldest vehicles they sell under their approved used vehicle warranty? My local dealer is Roger Young and they seem to be very helpful, the service manager was happy to come and have a drive to listen to my "noisey" low range (see my earlier post) no problem - whew ![]() |

£650 buys you a TX box fitted so I would out your money in an account for a rainy day and keep running it out of warranty. 1951 80" S1 2.0

As I understand it there is no limit on the claim, it is an extension of the existing 3 year warranty so if the engine/ gearbox blows up, probably more than £500, it would be covered, take the point about modifications, something to consider! 2010 Defender 110 Station Wagon, Santorini Black.

The usual "get out" is that the warranty covers for breakage and faliure not wear and tear or manufacturing defects.
I deal with warranty companies at work and they seem to do all they can to avoid paying out even sending out an engineer to inspect "failed parts" before authourising a payout or insisting that they supply the part required so they can only pay for the cheapest part available with all the consequences that that involves. 2005 Td5 90 XS Steve |

Thanks for those links K9F, a bit to consider! I'll have to look closely into what is covered and the limits.
I suppose that's the trouble with reading forums, you tend to hear more about problems than joys, though it's very interesting to see the loyalty of Landrover Owners even when they've had problems which would sent lesser vehicles to the big recycling yard in the sky ![]() Chris 2010 Defender 110 Station Wagon, Santorini Black. |

Chris,
^^^^ Ain't that the truth? ![]() You're very welcome. As with anything it can be a gamble and you can find yourself 'Between a rock and a hard place!' It's very much down to personal choice, affordability and natural ability. If you can pick up a spanner and possibly sort your own woes out and (like mine) have had no major historical issues with your truck why shell-out when there's so much that isn't covered? Only you can really make that decision. For me the plus side is that I'm over two years out of warranty have had no reason to claim if I had taken the extended warranty. Does that make me £1,400 better off? Not a chance I've blown it on other things (for the Land Rover of course). ![]() ![]() Treat every day as if it is your last....one day you will be right!! |
