Guess which wins.... Whistle Land Rover Defenders. 67 years heritage, minimal appearance changes, still going strong all over the world. Not a fashion vehicle, but fashionable to own. Made for the needy, not the greedy. Ta ta Defender

the land lord to our offices has the new RR and believes its the best car on the road.
(he's comparing it to the likes of his last RR and bentely gt).

I've no doubt its one of the best cars on the road but as per the video / link above theres no character and as not only does he have a new RR but so does the bloke next door ie they're already 'common'.....unlike the defender Very Happy

I would go for the G. 3 diff locks! And I expect greater longevity & (for a car) investment. Already has classic status.
Had LR given a damn about Defenders, it could have been developed to be a British rival to the Merc Gs. Where I live I see 2 older Gs around still going strong.

That having been said RRs (even Sports) are awesome...but in the same way as Disco 3s were & 4s are. Land Rover Defenders. 67 years heritage, minimal appearance changes, still going strong all over the world. Not a fashion vehicle, but fashionable to own. Made for the needy, not the greedy. Ta ta Defender

The defender to compare is je engineering Zulu. Driving with all three diffs locked is great if your going in a straight line. The g wagon doesn't compare to range rover. The g compares to the defender which is 50k cheaper. So your better off buying a new defender and spending the change on a second hand range rover.

The range rover is the best vehicle in the world. Just we all have a screw loose and keep buying defenders.

Technophobia rather than ludditism? Wink

My choices for a Defender were simple, Defender (& ancestors) = Land Rover. Rest in name only.
I would like a rust proofed RRC though. Land Rover Defenders. 67 years heritage, minimal appearance changes, still going strong all over the world. Not a fashion vehicle, but fashionable to own. Made for the needy, not the greedy. Ta ta Defender

I saw that clip the other day. quite good really.

I love the G, and that's what I would get.

I liked the chaps description of the G whilst driving through Beverly hills... "it's here, bit it feels like it shouldn't really be here" (or words to that effect) Rolling with laughter
