Proximity alarms on a 2012 defender...help needed
Following the attempted theft of my one year old 90 van last week I need to up the defences a bit. I would like an alarm fitted that senses if someone is close by and starts to sound off before they attack it or tells them to back off....is tis possible on the defender and if so which is a good reliable and affective alarm to fit ?

What, like those annoying ones that used to shout "WARNING.... MOVE AWAY FROM THIS VEHICLE, IT IS ALARMED" whenever a fox wandered past...

Yep, one of those ! Seriously though, there are some that apparently go off when you are very close and not just walking within ten feet....hence the request to see if anyone has a food reliable one that works well ? If it had got one on it they wouldn't have managed to sever the main wiring loom !

Yeah, jesting aside, The last one of those talking alarms I ever saw was back in the 90's; i'm sure technology has moved on in leaps and bounds now so that proximity and false alarms are much better controlled.

Not sure how difficult it would be, but would it be possible to put a micro-switch on the lock on the inside of the door to monitor someone pressing the button (i.e checking if a door is locked) and link this to a separate alarm. I guess this could also be linked up to the bonnet and also setup inside the door frames as well? 1999 Defender TD5 110

How close is too close? What happens if you park it in a car park and someone gets out of their car next to you?

I was thinking the same, something that chirps or whatever the expression is when someone is close....an audible warning.

Not always....

You can use an output from the 10AS to control the aftermarket alarm.

This is exactly what this one does.
