Central locking / Alarm
Just picked up my defender today and done 100 miles in it just cruising around Razz

So far so good, apart from my only query is do all puma defenders have central locking or is this an optional extra? (mines a 13 plate btw) I thought mine would have it but on the key when i press lock, nothing happens apart from a flash of the orange lights, i can open the door after this but the alarm goes off. This means the only way for me to lock the door is with the actual key, but i read that this disables the alarm also in the manual.

Also the defender driver waves to each other give me a Mr. Green every time!

Thanks, louis Thumbs Up

Something wrong with your lock motors - its supposed to lock the doors when you press that button and orange lights flash. Take it back to the dealer to sort out

If your key makes all the doors lock/unlock then you have central locking and it might be that it hasn't been "turned on" to work with the fob. Putting the motor on the diagnostics will soon sort it, job for the dealer with a bit of a gripe at them on their PDI standards.

I think it depends on the model. IIRC the base models don't have central locking, only the alarm. Have a look at the landrover web site, or the brochure.

My HT only had the alarm, and the central locking was fitted as an after-market add-on.

Cheers

Yeah it says that the central locking is an optional extra, but would they give me the key fob with the unlock/lock buttons if it didnt have it?

The fob locks/unlocks the alarm, so I guess it's the same fob if you have/have not the central locking...it is on mine...

You need the fob really as it contains the gadget that works the immobiliser, it needs to be in close proximity of the ignition switch to not trigger the immobiliser to stop you working the Defender.

Yep central locking is optional. Fob is for the alarm/immobiliser (as fitted). Also works central locking if fitted.

Just remember to lock the doors when you get out. Caught me out when I first used the 130 at work as my own 90 had had CDL for years.

Its not a major task to fit central locking if needed....

Just make sure you use all genuine parts!

You need the central locking actuators, new 10AS alarm module, and an overlay wiring harness and correct plugs/pins.

This means it looks standard, and any spare parts are off the shelf.

Why the hell is central locking an option??? It must be the only new car in the world that it isn't standard on. Certainly the only vehicle in the JLR group! Can you imagine even a Freelander without central locking. JLR amaze me sometimes!

My 2010 poverty spec Hard Top Puma came with no central locking and no stereo....

Bit different to my 1955 Series One though - that doesn't have any comforts. Even the passenger windscreen wiper was an option!

If the driver door key locks all doors then it has central locking (but not necessarily remote central locking)

If the fob also locks all doors it has remote central locking.

If the drivers key only locks the drivers door, then sadly no central locking.

I thought only cars over 15 years old didn't have central locking.
