Nice photos - good to see a decent comparison of sizes.
Was recently told (by my very cooperative dealer) in no uncertain terms that fitting one will pretty much invalidate all engine guarantees. So now I'm just waiting for my warranty to expire Tell someone you love them today because life is short. But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing... |

Intercooler + silicon hose install can be done at home in about 1h and 1/2 for the veichle with AC and slightly less for non AC model.

The bonnet cross-brace has to be removed as well as the two landing panels either side. Have a look on Alive's site there is a PDF download explaining the process on a non-AC model (see link below). I also had A-bar and lights to remove along with the grille etc. The four studs that hold the bonnet brace in can only be removed if there is sufficient thread to get two nuts on, if not as in my case it took significantly longer to remove the brace. The fitting of the silicone hoses alone took that long as they too are a very tight fit especially on the stainless steel hard-pipes as they themselves do not flex. The two lower mounting peg holes on the original radiator too needed a little 'fettling' to facilitate fitment. Removal of the old cooler and hoses took three hours, but then I am not rushed and a methodical worker. 12 hours is what I took which included coffee, meal breaks and tidying up and laying away tools etc. afterwards. Realistically allow yourself a full day for non planned eventualities! We shall undoubtedly see with any subsequent reports! Hour an a half???......No chance!!!!! http://www.alivetuning.com/alive-boutique/...cooler.pdf If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!! I'm not a pro skilled mechanic but only a Defender Lover hobbyst, fairly equipped.
Before doing the job I carefully read others user experience, tweaks, and well documented about do and dont's. On my Def, the new intercooler nicely fit without any kind of problem, it's like it was custom build for my veichle and theese are one of the reason of my enthusiastic rating. I initially planned to do the job in about 1/2 day, but then evertithing run trouble free and in the best manner possible. I can assure that the entire task took about 1,5h. The most important thing is that the intercooler+hose replacement can be done at home without the need of professional assistance and this is very important to self-learn how our veichle are made. Yours came from ChipTech, didn't it? Might be a better fit than some others... Tell someone you love them today because life is short.

Alive....Chiptech.... Nakatanenga.... if you can tell the difference.....????
I agree with Naks naturally. Not having air conditioning would have made the job so much quicker with regards to accessability. A great deal of my time as stated was taken up fitting the hard-pipes and their associated silicone unions. A point to note here was my old pipe also had signs of chafing that has been mentioned in other threads against the pulley/flywheel so I suppose it would just have been a matter of time before I needed to do something about the pipes anyway.
What I will add is that irrespective of who's look like who's? and who makes what? sourcing in the UK is very competitively priced and the doorbell rings within 24 hours of placing your order. I read that almost all of you spent at least 4h to install the intercooler. At this point I'm sure that I was wrong in stating that the install require less time, I probably don't remember correctly so please accept my apologize.

No need to apologise. I was just putting together a HUGE financial incentive for you to relocate to the UK. I'll buy 'em and provide the workshop, you fit 'em and we'll both make a fortune at a rate of 6 vehicles with intercoolers fitted in a day. Oh well have to think of something else to make my/our fortune now. If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!
