Wipers not working
Hi, in the past I've had problems with the wipers not stopping as they should and also they're erratic on the intermittent setting.
But now they've just decided not to work!
Any ideas,

Wiper park switch or one/both of the wheel boxes are seized. Both are reasonably cheap and I'd start with the park switch. Also only get genuine Landrover park switches as I've found cheaper makes last about a month Thumbs Up

Most likely the park switch on the motor, it seems to be the least reliable component! Failure can cause the wipers the stop randomly, or to stop altogether, or even to run continuously.

It's a bit of a pita to get at on the Puma without totally dismantling the dash but it can be done. I did post a "how to" some time ago, if you use the search facility you should find it.

Wiper parking
Similar problem with my Puma a couple of months ago. There are a couple of relays in the fuse box under the steering column. Problem resolved by gently wiggling the wiper relay about (red one from memory). Might be worth a try. Ian One wife - livid

Right, changed the wiper motor park switch, total pita.
Also just before changing the above i found the fuse for the wipers had blown, so replaced that.
both of these have resolved the problem?
any suggestions apart from rain x! its only a car!

I've just had the exact same problem on my 300tdi and it ended up being a faulty wiper motor. The fuse was constantly blowing and intermittent setting was erratic.

Tried another relay in it today and no improvement so it looks like a new wiper motor,
Landrover part or a motor spares copy? its only a car!

Go genuine. They are surprisingly affordable in comparison to after market

When my Defender was 15 yrs old I had a new bulkhead fitted and decided to put a new wiper motor on at the same time, even thought there wasnt anything wrong with the original one. Because I needed one quickly I bought a Britpart motor.

Fast forward 2 yrs and the Britpart motor has just failed. Compare this to the original motor which was still working OK after 15 yrs.

Lesson learnt Neutral

I don't remember EVER buying a Britpart part which wasn't defective or unsatisfactory in some way, and I try to avoid them like the plague (and will only ever buy them when I need something in a hurry and nothing else is available).

Highlights over the years have included:-

- A Disco2 air filter which physically didn't fit in the air filter housing

- Defender hub nuts (the stub axle nuts) which had the wrong number of TPI and destroyed the stub axle (making the repair much more expensive)

- A Defender door mirror which didn't fit the mirror arm ball.

There have been others, but I have managed to expunge them from my memory!

However the most recent Britpart part I bought was a bump rubber for a Disco 2 (needed urgently because of an MOT). The original part's metal backing plate was perfectly formed and about 1.5mm thick; the replacement's was bent out of recognition and so thin you could bend it between finger and thumb like cardboard.

Very depressing really.

Perhaps we should start a parts "Hall of Shame" thread.

Do you mean that neither of these has resolved the problem?

Has the fuse blown again? If so, try this: Remove the wiper arms and then the motor and 4' long operating rack/cable. Rotate both shafts that the wipers fit on 180 degrees (they should turn easily now) and then refit everything. The wheels in the wiper boxes wear and get stuck on the operating rack/cable. By rotating 180deg you are now using a new part of the wheel and all should be well.

Failing that, check that there is power arriving at the motor when you operate the switch!
