Advice on mods for new 90XS
Hi all,

Need some pointers on a couple of mods for the new purchase...

Rear side window interior mesh grilles - what are the recommended ones to buy that offer good security whilst still allowing the windows to slide open ? Easy enough to fit ?

Rear load area rubber floor mat - what's the mat of choice and the best place to buy ?

Chassis rust proofing - does it really need doing from new ? Waxoyl or dinitrol ? What areas need attention and which need avoiding ? I've access to a 4 poster and airline so plan to DIY if its really recommended.

Many thanks all !

As you have the kit, it's a no brainer! It will never be as easy to do again, nor as worthwhile as when the chassis is new from the factory. Dinitrol seems to generally be viewed as slightly better than Waxoyl, a bit easier to work with and a slightly neater finish. For the cost of the Dinitrol and a day spent applying it, it really is well worth doing. The chassis might look nice and clean when it arrives, but it won't stay like that for long, especially once winter arrives again.

For your safari door window, I would recommend external grille. The window is expensive to replace if its heated. Stones thrown up can hit it. 90s having no overhang are more susceptible.

I wish flip down mesh visors, such as police anti-riot vans have, were made for Defenders (for use when off road). Heated front windscreens are even more expensive... Land Rover Defenders. 67 years heritage, minimal appearance changes, still going strong all over the world. First some protection.

Waxoyl or dinitrol from new is a good idea. However if you are going to fit any underbody protection, rock and tree sliders etc it might be a good idea to fit them before spraying as it can be a bit messy fitting them afterwards.

R + T sliders will also protect from car park opening door syndrome

Security? Consider a Trakker etc. Also another alarm or alarm modification. Security nuts on wheel and chain on spare wheel

MSS side windows are good but you will only be able to open the windows 2-3 inches

For other peoples ideas have a read of this for some ideas.

Consider carefully what YOU want to do with the vehicle. Try and get a plan for order you are going to do things in. Also check that if buying gear from different makers that they are compatible with each other.

As above Naka rear door gas strut. Really useful. Just don't let it rip the fixings out by accident by letting it fly back. (eh GUM Wink Twisted Evil ) ⭐️⭐️God Bless the USA 🇬🇧🇺🇸 ⭐️⭐️
