just get a genuine one, no need for uprated one. Our cars run OE MAF's with stg3 kits on them. Putting Dreams on Drives at JLR Solihull..

There's thread on here somewhere, where Porny posted the readings that a healthy MAF should show.
It's about 50 kg/hr at idle and up to 550~600kh/hr when on full chat. With the engine off (but ign on) I think it should show about 4.5kg/hr If it's showing 0 then it's dead. although remove the plug from it, give it a clean/spray in WD40 and re-insert. I thought I had a dead one, bought a replacement, and since unplugging the old one and re-fitting, it's been fine... so at least I've got a spare now! Makes a huge difference to performance. The nanocom can show this reading in real time... as in, when the engine is running. either on stand alone or if the nano is plugged into a laptop. I prefer having it on a laptop, you can see so much more, and it's clearer, but if you're just after one particular reading, as in the MAF data, then stand alone is fine. What version of nano have you got? mine is the old Mk.1 but works fine. |

Yes, it goes through fuse 37, 15amp
Which appears to be a "lone" fuse (i.e, not in the underseat or passenger fusebox) so looking at the wiring diagram, i'd suggest it was the fuse that's in the loom right next to the ECU/relays under the drivers seat. It also feeds the EGR valve. it is powered from the main ignition relay (and cut-off by the inertia switch on the bulkhead) Looking at the diagram; if the fuel pump is pumping, then there should be +12v to the +ve side of the fuse holder. |

You can get MAF cleaner now - leaves no residue:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Mass-Flow-Sensor-C...or+cleaner I've cleaned several over the years and they usually come "back to life" Tell someone you love them today because life is short. But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing... |

I cleaned mine out today with electrical contact cleaner, seems to be very similar stuff.

OK i have volts on the contacts to the MAF so that looks good, i inspected the MAF closer, and all i can see is a piece of thin metal in there, i see no components or wire, should there be anything on the metal plate ?

The metal is in a kind of "P" shape with a loop inside it. althugh different makes may look different.
Here's a random google image of one, you can see the sensor poking down: |

You really want the engine in tip top condition before you try making it go faster.
Try Harfords. Or TH Whites parts dept are usually open until 13:00hrs. |

Lol fixed spelling mistakes....... I think it might be pattern....... JD 2008 TDCi 2.4 XS CSW |

My philosophy is always go original for "mystery components" (ones I can't understand) - that way if there's still a problem you can be fairly certain the fault lies elsewhere. Pattern parts always leave an element of doubt...
W.r.t. remapping, wait until the engine's working before you start confusing it more. Pete Bell indicated that remaps are "adaptive" to the engine parameters, which is another good reason to wait. Tell someone you love them today because life is short. But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing... |
