COOLANT leak with no hole..
So today i was running late for work and the defender got thumped the whole way to work, at the end of the day i noticed a small puddle of coolant under the engine. popped the bonnet and there was coolant sitting on the right of the engine and about 300ml missing out the bottle.
Here's the conundrum, there is no trace of where its come from, i've put a pressure tester on the expansion bottle and taken it up to 13 bar with no leaks and ive topped her up and driven home with no recurrence.

This is where the coolant was sitting.

The small hose clip in that photo looks suspect, also check the screw in core plug that goes into the side of the cylinder head in between exhaust manifold webs.

When you look at the core plug check for signs of water, and its marks, as it is unlikely you will see water as heat from exhaust dries it, so goes unnoticed.

It is indeed, i'm in the process of looking up which EGR blanking kit is best aluminium vs steel and pricing.

When I had a similar problem with my 300tdi it was coming from the water pump gasket. The water pump can be found behind one of the belt pulleys.

If you pop your bonnet with the engine running, pull on the accelerator cable and look for fine splashes/spray of coolant. If you cant see it spraying out, look for splashes on other engine components around the water pump.

Or close the bonnet, rev engine with pedal, lift bonnet and look under the actual bonnet where it may have splashed up onto the underside.

Worth a try.

My 90 dribbles from exactly the same place.... i've tried re-seating the pipe (it was damp on the bottom of it, so has to be where the clip is)

Might change the clip for a proper jubilee clip that can be done up tighter.
