Broken wires!
07UW.
Is the wiring prone to breakage?
My drivers window stopped working - one wire broken in two places the othe had the insulation split.
Rear passenger door locking not working - both wires broken.
The wires seemed very stiff and brittle
Now I'm worried that all the wiring will go the same way, any thoughts?

Wires breaking in the rubber sleeve between the door and pillar is common on defenders

I wouldn't personally lose any sleep over it especially if you have the tooling and savvy to track any issues down. I have had issues with not broken but chafed cables on TC/ABS. Took me between 5 and 6 hours to source and sort. Would have been horrific had I needed to pay workshop labour.
The Defender is a strange beast where certain individuals have had several clutches/gearboxes etc. whereas I have had none.
Live with it 'warts 'n' all and address any issues when and if they occur, it is the nature of the beast itself that is the driving force unfortunately.

Hope yours is/will be kind to you! Thumbs Up If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!

Treat every day as if it is your last....one day you will be right!!

thanks K9F - I've also had the TC/ABS chaffed wires - fortunately repaired under warranty as it took ages to trace.

the wires were broken in the rubber conduit that goes between the post and the door - had to remove the door card (and handles etc.) to get to it to repair - un plugged the plugs to give a bit of movement and replaced the offending wires.
Check Fuses etc. then I pulled the rubber conduit away from the A post un plugged the connector and tested it with a multimeter (holding the door light switch at the same time) i had voltage when the switch was pressed so the fault must have between there and the motor. Series IIa Lightweight - Long Gone

Every now and then I check a door is locked after locking With the remote. On one occasion I found a rear passenger door on my 110 CSW was unlocked- even after locking and unlocking several times. Shocked Found the two wires in the single cable going to the door were completely cut - I can only assume it got caught in the door somehow. No idea how long this was unlocked as normally I lock the Landy and check the drivers door but on this occasion I must of been nearer the passenger door.. Easy fix once you know what's going on. Very Happy

Hi Guys,
I have to say i was shocked to see how thin the wires are in the new Defenders. I am sure there will be a good after market business to be made selling heavier duty wiring looms in a few years!
Cheers,
