Seems the rubber matting fitted to the current Defender does not last too long.Here is the Australian take on it.

I've been in one of the new Defenders and I'd much rather have their thicker, more 'soundproofy' coverings around the gearbox tunnel and seat boxes. It also looks more robust and longlived too than the thin flimsy carpet - rather like the ones you see in lorries actually.
In the 2.4 the floor carpets are actually quite small and you'd be mad not to cover them with rubber matting so I often wonder whats the point of them in the first place |
