I know this isn't really an expedition as such but we are going down to North Devon for a week (staying near Mortehoe) dn wondered if there were any recommendations for good things to do and see (apart from the almost obligatory visit to Devon 4x4 for a load of stuff I don't really need
Any lanes in the area? Good pubs, fishmongers , trips etc - local inside info would be good . Ta DJ PS I don't want to know the weather forecast thanks 1989 200tdi 90 csw 2011 110 usw Orkney grey Buy British 🇬🇧 Defender Clothing Designs available at http://www.rangesports.com/acatalog/Defender-Stuff.html |

Clovelly is worth a visit if you have not been there.
Porlock and the harbour. Tarr steps on Exmoor, just been rebuilt after they washed away. Some good lanes to the east of Barnstable, around the Goodleigh area. Good cheese shop in Barnstable I should really be able to tell you a lot more about the area but we just tend to pass through on the way to Cornwall as it is so close to us Have a good time (and I will not tell you what the weather is like at the moment ) Bob 2015 Jaguar XE240 R Sport - goes like ....... !! 2013 Defender 90 CSW - sold 2009 Defender 110 Double Cab - sold 2001 TD5 90 CSW - offroad project - sold to a forum member 2011 Porsche Boxster - for the sunny days ! |

The Lynton & Lynmouth Cliff Railway is fun, as is the Lynton & Barnstaple narrow gauge railway, if you like that sort of thing.
In Mortehoe there's a strange fish restaurant that's like having dinner in somebodys' front room There's a great beach at Croyde that has a National Trust car park that's free to members. Illfracombe is nice and has some interesting tidal swimming pools. Devon 4x4 is on the main drag in from the M5 Darren 110 USW BUILD THREAD - EXPEDITION TRAILER - 200tdi 90 BUILD THREAD - SANKEY TRAILER - IG@landroveranorak "You came in that thing? Thanks chaps, I'd already booked the strange fish restaurant and now found a few lanes.
Railway sounds good, some good suggestions there - mrs h likes the look of Clovelly (do we go past devon 4x4 on the way? ) edit - just checked the map and yes we do Hope the weather clears up, but I have got some new windscreen wipers to try out D 1989 200tdi 90 csw 2011 110 usw Orkney grey Buy British 🇬🇧 Defender Clothing Designs available at http://www.rangesports.com/acatalog/Defender-Stuff.html |

If you're into railways there is the West Somerset steam line between Minehead and Bishops Lydeard - just make sure they are running a steam engine and not a diesel. Goes over Exmoor and we have seen it many times but never actually been on it - a treat for later this year.

we had a short break at the woolacombe bay hotel and the food there was fantastic (all local fresh produce) and i believe it is open to non residents (a collared shirt is required).
the tourist information at woolacombe has got a laminated booklet with 8 local walks, including an excellent one at clovelly that means you follow the coastal path into the village - very scenic |
