I am a layman when it comes to them but engines run best (especially jet engines, something I do know a little more about) when the air is cold. I do not know the ambient temperature of the engine bay when running but it must be hotter than ambient by a considerable margine. If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!
Treat every day as if it is your last....one day you will be right!! |

Ive often wondered if the air intake would be better at the front in a nice cold high pressure area than in the side of the wing (only of course on a none wading landy) or picking up air from the redundant wing top vent rather than the side DEFENDER 90 TDCI XS,
I hope everyone is well and your land rovers make you happy |

Hey Pete, Open question? Doing a test on road or with your dyno with side vent will not make a lot of difference? Comparing a snorkel version on the dyno or on road will make a difference. On road (motorway), the air is pushed in the snorkel. On your dyno not. Does this give the difference or can you simulate it? Do I make a statement with this point or not? Regards P |

Just a quick update on this. I've eventually managed to get through a full tank of diesel since replacing the RAI with the cor4 cover and its had a fairly significant impact on mpg. Previously my rough mileage to the fuel light coming on was around 375ish miles , this time with only urban short trips it ran to 425miles before the fuel light came on. My very unscientific calculator says that I've jumped from around 26~27mpg to around 29 maybe 30..
The other noticeable benefit is the anti stall feature is working far better than it did with the RAI where it always felt like it was rough and about to stall, pulling away in 2nd is a lot easier too. 2023 110 P400e |

I tested something like this last autumn - may be interesting (last 2 posts): http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic14242....p;start=15 Tell someone you love them today because life is short. But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing... |
