Hi JB,
Welcome to the Forum, Waxoil is only going to be worth it if you are going to keep it for more than a few years The idea is to protect the wagon from R**st and save the chassis & doors from rotting to bits. doing it on a new dry clean machine is the best way to go - but if you sell in at the end of the warrenty then the new owner would be the one who benifits. If it were me, then I would do it - but I tend to keep my wagons for a long time! Yes well worth it but get rear crossmember painted first.
Dinitrol seems to be a better solution as it is a two part application. |

My rear crossmember is five years old next week and apart from an occasional coating of WD never had to repaint it yet and it still looks good.
Yes get it waxoyled for the sake of a few hundred quid it's well worth the longer term investment. Not sure but woud 'guesstimate' £4-£500 should cover it literally. If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!! Treat every day as if it is your last....one day you will be right!! Last edited by K9F on 2nd Jun 2013 3:11pm. Is the Pope Catholic? Buy yourself a Dinitrol kit and set to it yourself, that way you will know that the job has been done properly, it's easy peasy if the vehicle is all new and pristine. Mind you the waxing thing has all been gone over here and elsewhere many times before - in fact there's a whole thread stuck to the top dedicated to the subject http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic10467.html The subject is sort of Steve. Owned numerous Land Rover vehicles of all shapes and sizes over the decades. Current Defender: A non tarts hand-bagged Puma 110 XS USW. [Insert something impressive here such as extensive list of previous Land Rovers or examples of your prestigeous and expensive items, trinkets, houses, bikes, vehicles etc] http://forums.lr4x4.com I used to be Miserable ...but now I'm ecstatic. |

Thanks guys - I'll get the Dinitrol kit and have a go myself. I remember from my series land rover days the debate about waxoiling with about 50% each way for the plus and minuses.
Just looking forward to driving it!! ROll on the 17th.... |

Because you will find coating goes milky grey and in time rusts, unless perhaps you spray with wd40 as mentioned. My 130 is just over a year old kept undercover, rarely used and crossmember looks poor finish. |

Fully agree with getting the cross-member done - get it properly done now before there's a hint of rust on it; at five years old mine is looking very poor! Peter

Ideally you would strip it down, have the chassis, bulkhead and cappings galv'd, then paint and put it back together again!

Good move. From experience of doing mine I found it better to add an extra litre each of 3125 and 4941 to the order, as I didn't have enough 3125 to do inside of chassis too. I removed a couple of hinge bolts to do bulkhead with the cavity wax. Personally I don't think the later style doors need it, but you can do these too. I used decorating sheet to tape up hubs, exhaust and paintwork. I also used it on the floor to save the driveway. I put the Defender on axle stands to make access easier. Lastly I bought a couple of disposable paint suits. I took my time over a couple of days and warming the cans up in a bucket of hot water or the sun if by chance you have any! Cheers Steve |
