2013 - Alarm
Hi all

Does anybody know if the factory-fit alarm on a 2013 XS is Thatcham rated, and if so to what category?

Standard Alarm can be upgraded... means you keep the standard LR fob (or I can do you an all in one key).

This is strange as the definition of Cat1 is alarm and immobiliser whereas CAT 2 is immobiliser only. I thought that Puma's had immobilisers AND alarms so would qualify as CAT1, at least those with the battery back-up. Wonder what it is about the alarm that doesn't qualify it for CAT 1 status.

From Thatcham website...

Category 1
Passenger Cars, LCV, HGV, Plant, Motorcycles
ELECTRONIC ALARM AND IMMOBILISER
Alarm
Perimeter detection
Ignition detection
Passenger compartment movement detection
Inclination detection (Motorcycle only)
Audible warning with battery back-up power supply
Immobiliser
Passively set
Isolates a minimum of two operating circuits or systems, or a minimum of one operationally relevant vehicle control unit with coded intervention

Edit: okay think that the Defender alarm does not have a proximity sensor and thus fails the "perimeter detection" requirement?

I reckon Perimeter protection are the door/bonnet contacts, so it would be okay on that basis.

I don't know enough about the immobiliser in terms of circuit/ecu isolation so not sure if it falls down there but I can't see Thatcham approving an alarm system where traditionally (assuming MY13 no different) , they locate the audible element in an area that is not even partially protected by the alarm zones Jon - 110 td5 [sold]. Probably the fact that a badger with a blunted spoon can bypass it and steal the doors/bonnet/whole thing without anyone hearing! Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter

party monkey - the immobiliser is fine, that's why its CAT 2 - as far as Thatcham are concerned all it has is an immobiliser. If it had a decent alarm as well it would qualify as CAT 1.

Just wondering if alarm was classified on the basis that the battery back up was not standard issue untll MY 11 onwards.

Diesel jim - are the battery back up alarms not "badger proof"?

Disconnect the battery and see if the alarm goes off (make sure you have your radio code)

I do believe from MY 12 onwards (2.2 TDCi) they were standard issue

Battery back up was a cost option but standard IIRC on XS spec not sure about MY2013

Even with battery back up LR would still have to submit it to Thatcham for testing and approval before the insurance company recognised it.

But you can add a 3rd party rechargeable battery sounder to the car electrics that sounds off if the battery is disconnected. In fact you could add more than one in different positions. Thumbs Up LANDYWATCH
