Well one thing I can honestly say is that West Yorkshire police are about as much use as a chocolate fire guard!
Not only are the phone numbers on their official website are incorrect/out of date they have no idea how to communicate within their own force. Used 101 and requested to be put through to Halifax police station. Can not be done they will get Halifax to ring me. Guess what, got phone call from Bradford who can not comment on another division! Finally got a phone call from Halifax and was told that there was a lack of information on the report! Now have had another phone call and all I got told was that we were incorrect! No wonder apparent crime numbers are reducing, there is no point in reporting crime to the police as they are not interested in arresting criminals. Too busy having tea breaks and doing the sun crossword! Brendan |

leeds - i think that you will find that the police station staff are either learning how to not tazer blind men or busy spending their compensation money for being bitten by a flea or tripping over a kerb - not the sun crossword!

If the police record a crime then it becomes a crime statistic. If they dont record it then it doesn't. Hey presto - crime has fallen.
I guess this is organised at a much higher level though. So if you get mugged then this may be classified as violent crime. If your police force (sorry, police service!) have been told to reduce violent crimes then your mugging could be recorded as something slightly different. Theft from person doesnt sound quite as violent does it. No doubt some government big wigs get a nice bonus from it all? |

Mugging does not exist as a crime.... It is a term coined by the media.
What does exist, however, is "Robbery of personal property" or "Snatch theft" (neither to be confused with Burglary, or regular theft) |
